Here's a look at what's going on this weekend!

The Salvation Army is taking applications for Christmas benefits.

This is the final week to apply for Christmas benefits with the Salvation Army.They will continue to take applications until December 13 at 1305 South Limit.  The hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon and then again from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Contact Cindi at 826-5262 for any questions.

Boy Scout Troop 300 will host a Chili supper. 

Boy Scout Troop 300 will host a Chili Supper at Amigo de Cristo, 3003 West 11th Street, Sedalia, on Saturday, December 14, from 4:00 to 7:00pm.  Five dollars buys a bowl of chili, tea or lemonade, and three cookies.

Santa and Mrs Claus will be paying a special visit to Third National Bank’s main facility. 

The bank, located at 301 West Broadway, will have Santa on Friday, December 13 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Parents are welcome to bring a camera and take photos.

Sedalia Parks and Recreation will have a Candy Cane Hunt.

It is rumored there will be hundreds of candy canes throughout Liberty Park for children ages 8-12 to find! Grab your flashlight and join us Friday, December 13, 2013 under the Christmas lights to search for all the hidden candy canes. Prizes will be given to those who find the “lucky canes.”  Pre-registration is required at the Parks & Rec office by December 11. Only $5 person, and is limited to kids age 8-12. Participants will need to bring a flashlight and a bag.

Santa and his family are coming to Convention Hall! 

Join Santa, Mrs.Claus, and his elves for a yummy breakfast, Saturday December 14, 2013 from 9:00am to 10:30am. Get your picture taken with Santa and make some fun holiday crafts. Santa might even share a story with you and play some games! Please register by December 10; Santa’s elves must know how many to cook for! Registration is at the Parks & Recreation Office in Liberty Park.

The La Monte United Methodist Church will have their 5th Annual Bake Sale, Craft Bazaar and Chili Luncheon.

This will be held on Saturday, December 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the  La  Monte United Methodist Church.  Handcrafted items and homemade goodies will be available for everyone on your shopping list. All proceeds will go toward  church  ministries and missions.  The chili luncheon will start at 11:00 a.m.

The Katy Depot will host a Polar Express Event for children and their parents on Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 am and again at 1:00 pm. 

The event will feature the story of the Polar Express, light refreshment, an ornament to take home and a visit with Santa Claus. The event is free but seating is limited. Call the Depot at 826-2932 to make your ticket reservation. For more information contact Terri Fowler at the Depot, 826-2932.

Have your pet’s photo taken with Santa Claus to benefit a good cause! 

Participants will need to bring a donation of their choice (pet food, supplies, or monetary donation) with all proceeds being donated to the Sedalia Animal Shelter. Visit Santa in the Convention Hall lobby Saturday, December 14 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for this special opportunity.

Santa will meet with children at the Santa House.

Santa will appear in the Sedalia parade on Saturday, December 14, and then will visit with children at the Santa House on the west side of the Sedalia Courthouse. Santa also will be at the Santa House from 3:30 to 5:30pm on  Friday, December 13 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, December 20, and from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, and Monday, December 23.

Santa Claus will visit Green Ridge on Saturday December 14.

Santa will be in the community building in Green Ridge on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  He'll ride in on a fire truck.  This is sponsored by the Green Ridge Chamber of Commerce.
