SFCC Students to Compete at National FBLA-PBL Conference

Three State Fair Community College students have qualified to represent SFCC and Missouri at the 2013 Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) national leadership conference June 22-25 in Anaheim, Calif.

All five SFCC students who competed placed in the top five in individual and team events March 22 at the annual Missouri PBL leadership conference in Columbia. Students who placed first through third are eligible to compete nationally.

Advancing to national competition will be Laura Petree, Tipton, who placed first in sales presentation; Petree and Jake Knipp, Tipton, who placed first in desktop publishing; and Megan Hudson, Sedalia, who placed second in telecommunications and third in word processing.

Dawn Hines, Sedalia, placed fifth in computer applications and Christina Carroll, Sedalia, placed fifth in telecommunications.

Two students also were elected to state office: Petree was elected reporter and Knipp was elected parliamentarian. The conference also included leadership training.

PBL Advisor Jodi Fudge accompanied the students.

Phi Beta Lambda is an educational association of postsecondary student members preparing for careers in business. There are more than 11,000 active members in the United States. Missouri has nearly 400 members in 22 chapters.
