A lengthy standoff in the eastern Missouri town of Fredericktown has reached a peaceful conclusion.

KFVS-TV reports that a man who allegedly threatened to blow up a house was taken into custody Wednesday morning after a standoff that lasted around 12 hours. Police were checking the home to see if there were any explosives.

A woman called before 7 p.m. Tuesday to say her son broke into the home with jugs of gasoline and dumped one on the floor. Police arrived but were locked out, leading to a standoff. The man allegedly told his family through text messages that he had enough material to blow up the house.

A three-block area was evacuated during the standoff.

Fredericktown, with about 4,000 residents, is 90 miles south of St. Louis.
