Last night (Dec. 17), I really got into the holiday spirit by taking my kids to Higginsville to see the Kansas City Southern Lines Santa Train. This train has operated for 13 years and its goal is to not only bring holiday cheer to those who visit it, but they also provide funds to the local Salvation Army at each of their stops along the way. Santa Claus, who without a doubt really does exist, doesn’t have time to make a personal appearance in every Hollywood movie about Christmas ever made. Instead, he relies on a number of talented actors to portray him on the silver screen.

Prior to the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce Breakfast this Thursday morning (Dec. 12), KSIS had the opportunity to talk to Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn about upcoming events  this weekend. Mayor Horn will be riding in the parade this year, which will take place at 10:00 Saturday morning after being delayed by cold weather last Saturday.

Pettis County Presiding Commissioner John Meehan announced today (Dec. 4) that the county will hold their first Christmas Lighting Contest this year. The county contest will be held for those living in Pettis County outside of Sedalia.

Christmas means toys, food, holiday cards, laughter, singing, family squabbles and lot of sweets stuffed inside your belly. The festive season also means a ton of money will be spent on those near and dear to us—and with so many sales going on, maybe just a bit on yourself as well.

If there's one thing I'm sure we've all seen driving around town, it's the good old Christmas lights.  It seems like some people are ready to get their lights up as soon as Halloween!  But now it's December, and that means that everybody's gonna be getting theirs up soon.  So why not join in on a little friendly competition?
