I've started my blog posts with the weather every day for the last two months.  I thought the crazy weather changes were over and done with.  I can deal with a 15-20 degree temperature change, this IS Missouri.  But come on, from the 70s to the 30s?  This is just ridiculous.

Anyway, let's start off with some fishin'.  Last weekend, some really good crappie were caught on the Ozarks as well as Truman.  I don;t fish the Ozarks much,  but they were catching them at the Gravois Mills area in 10-20 ft. suspended at 6-8 ft.  Red and chartreuse and black and chartreuse were best, tipped with a crappie nibble.  On Truman, it was getting good on the upper lake, above Bucksaw, the closer to Hwy. 13 the better.  Otter Creek and Watermelon Cave were hot.  They came out with some really nice fish from 3-8 ft.  Deep the males were already starting to work back.  I would say that this coming week and next week will be the best.  I feel the spawn should be in swing by the 20th, so you better get on them while you can.  Good luck!

Now let's talk turkey.  We had a great youth hunt and were able to get four out of six kids their first turkeys, and the other two had a great experience.  Each child received backpacks, lights, camo masks, custom turkey calls and more.  Thanks a lot to all of the local support at our Whitetails Banquet.  Also thanks to the State Fair Strutters for the pizza and video, and all the members that were there to help out at the pre-hunt meeting on Friday night.  Also want to thank the staff at Work Force Development across from SFCC for the use of their conference room, it worked out great.  You can check out all of the photos on the MO Kids Outdoors Facebook Page.

This Monday is opening day for Adult Turkey Season, and I'm pumped.  We'll be taking Eric Statler from LaMonte County out on Opening Day.  He is Wounded Warrior friend who is a quadriplegic.  This will be a challenge, but I feel that we are up to it.  We'll keep you posted with pics and let you know how the hunt plays out.

Speaking of Wounded Warriors, we'll be hunting with four Wounded Warriors from Ft. Leonard Wood on the 20th, as well as a 17-year-old who is completely blind.  We'll be using equipment we were able to obtain through your support at the Whitetails banquet.  We'll also post photos from the awesome hunt.  What better way to start the first week of hunting season than to give it to those who gave and continue to give each day for our freedom.

Finally, don't forget that the State Fair Strutters NWTF Banquet is this Saturday night at the MEC Building on the Fairgounds.  Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner at 7:00.  There will be awesome prizes, a silent auction, live auction, raffles, games, something for everyone, so come on and check it out.

Well, I'm going to sign off. so until next week, hunt hard, live right and say your prayers at night for those who are still fighting the fight.  God bless the troops.
