Xi Beta Upsilon, chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, with the assistance of the Mayor and the City Council has announced Sedalia’s 39th annual outdoor Christmas Light Contest.

According to the City of Sedalia, there are two different judging categories; one for residences and another for businesses.

The following prizes and rules apply for both categories.

Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners. Prize money will be $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place.

The deadline for entering is 12:00 p.m., on  Monday, December 9, with judging to take place during the evening hours of Tuesday, December 10, beginning after 6:30.

If you have not won a cash prize in the last three years, (2016, 2017, 2018), you may enter by submitting an application to the Mayor’s Office, located at 200 S. Osage Ave, or emailing completed applications to webmaster@cityofsedalia.com.

The residential and business Christmas Light Contest applications are available online at cityofsedalia.com or at the Mayor’s Office.

The judging will be done on a point basis as follows:

Lighting - 10 points

Eye appeal - 10 points

Originality - 10 points

Overall appeal - 10 points

It was noted that complete displays are to remain in place throughout the Christmas holiday season for the enjoyment of the community. The contest is confined to the city limits. City employees are not eligible to participate in the contest.
