Behavioral Health Care Providers Rebrand to ‘Centerstone’
The Burrell Behavioral Health clinic and crisis center in Sedalia will begin operating as Centerstone by July1.
This rebranding means Burrell Behavioral Health offices and clinics in Sedalia will be rebranded as Centerstone.
Centerstone's Market CEO for Missouri Mat Gass previously served as the CEO of Burrell Behavioral Health and has more than 15 years of experience working in central and northern Missouri for Burrell. He says the name will change, but the level of care will rise for clients in Sedalia and Pettis County.
“By changing our name to Centerstone, we’ll be able to serve Missouri with a consistent, cohesive approach,” Gass said. “Our clients can expect a warm, accessible and welcoming approach to care at any of our clinics. Our clients need us be to strong leaders and compassionate care providers at the same time.”
Burrell Behavioral Health opened its new Sedalia clinic and behavioral health crisis center in Sedalia in September 2025. A walk-in behavioral health crisis center is similar in nature to a medical urgent care clinic. The Sedalia crisis center provides vital support to adults in the west central part of Missouri who are experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.
Whitney Benscoter is the director of the behavioral health crisis center in Sedalia.
“What keeps me motivated to provide behavioral health care in my community is seeing the impact that compassionate, evidence-based support can have in helping people reclaim parts of their lives they once thought were lost,” Benscoter said. “Behavioral health needs are often invisible and deeply misunderstood, yet they affect every aspect of a person’s well-being.”
The Main Street site also has a psychiatric outpatient clinic. Brandon AhHee works for Centerstone in Sedalia as a community support supervisor, providing guidance to individuals who are recovering from behavioral health conditions and/or substance use disorders.
“I love this job, who I work with, and the people I help,” AhHee said. “I’m motivated by the chance to support people during some of their most challenging moments, because I know how much that care can change a life. Every time I see someone take a step forward, it reminds me why I’m committed to this work.”
The name change addresses a core challenge: as demand for behavioral health services grows, fragmented branding can confuse the community and limit awareness of available care.
Centerstone CEO C.J. Davis was the CEO of Brightli prior its merger with Nashville-based Centerstone in 2025. The surviving organization opted to adopt the Centerstone brand name.
“The Centerstone name is really important for us to lean into from a legacy perspective, because it is a household name,” Davis said. “It has been a leader in our nation for many, many years, and it is synonymous with quality. Quality has to be the core of what we are after at Centerstone.”
Centerstone CEO Emeritus David Guth, Jr. says the future success for Centerstone will be measured through a combination of better outcomes for patients, better outcomes for professional care providers and stability for the organization that connects patients to providers.
“What we need to be accountable for in the coming years is how we are breaking down barriers nationally to transform how care is delivered,” Guth said. “It’s not all about how big we can get; people really crave a human connection.
The combined Centerstone organization will serve about 250,000 people annually, and Centerstone will be the largest nonprofit provider of mental health and substance use disorder care across the United States.
