A Chilicothe couple was killed in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday afternoon in Benton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a southbound 2003 Volkswagen Beetle, driven by 64-year-old Matthew W. Dixon of Chilicothe, was on US 65, north of Jackman Avenue (north of Fristoe) around 1:15 p.m., when the VW ran off the right side of the highway. The driver overcorrected and the Beetle returned to the roadway and began to skid. It then ran off the left side of the roadway, struck the ground three times and came to rest.

Matthew and his occupant, 66-year-old Karin L. Dixon, also of Chillicothe, were pronounced dead at 1:36 p.m., by Benton County Coroner Weston Miller. The bodies were taken to Reeser Funeral Home in Warsaw.
