A water main break in the 3000 block of South Limit forced the closure of several blocks of the highway for several hours on Wednesday night.

Sedalia Police, the City of Sedalia’s Water Department and MoDOT were all on scene several hours in below zero temperatures getting the mess cleaned up while traffic was diverted around the area.

The highway was opened early Thursday morning after repairs were made by the Sedalia Water Department near the entrance to Yeager’s Cycle Sales where the break occurred. However, the outside northbound lane is still closed in that area for ongoing repairs.

In fact, due to the continued extreme frigid temperatures, the City of Sedalia has experienced multiple water main breaks in five areas:

*W.T. Morris Avenue (formerly North Moniteau)

*1700 block of W. 18th St. (between S. Limit Ave. & South Warren Ave.)

*South Limit Ave (between Heck Ave. & W. 32nd Street)

West Main St. (between South Kentucky Ave. & South Moniteau Ave.)

1700 block of South Brown Ave (from East 16th Street to East 18th Street)

“Repair crews are working diligently to fix the breaks as quickly as possible. Customers in these areas may experience low or no water pressure during repairs,” the City said.

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as our hardworking crews strive to restore service. Please avoid job sites to give them space to work safely and efficiently. Thank you for your understanding,” read a notification from the City on Thursday morning.
