For those waiting for action on the dilapidated buildings in downtown Sedalia, the sight of tumbling bricks on the corner of West Second Street and Osage is a welcome sight. On Monday morning (April 28), crews moved in and began dismantling the two buildings on the northeast corner, just across the street from City Hall.

The original plans called for the demolition of just the corner building, leaving the old Burkholder building standing, but according to Chief Building Official for the City of Sedalia Andy Burt, it would have cost more to save the building than it was worth.

While the leveling of these dangerous buildings is welcome news, there still remains the more visible problem at Second and Ohio. KSIS will continue to ask when on those buildings.
