Community Development Director John Simmons submitted a budget amendment to City Administrator Kelvin Shaw last Wednesday pertaining to the Council Chambers renovation project.

The project was originally budgeted for $225,000. In addition, $161,069 was budgeted for renovation of the area vacated by the Sedalia Police Department when they moved across the street. Information Technology, Municipal Court and the Sedalia Water Department will now occupy that space.

But the scope of the project has dramatically increased, since the Water Department move and administration office was not anticipated at the time the budget was approved.

A total of $410,500 was originally approved for the contractor, Septagon Construction. But the change order adds $19,072 to that, for a total of $429,572. Therefore a budget amendment for $53,464.59 was necessary.

Council approved the change order Monday night at its first meeting of September. Council meets again Sept. 21.
