Five Things I’d Like to See Come to Sedalia

Everybody has a list of stuff they'd like to see come to the towns they live in. What's on yours? Here are five things I'd like to see in Sedalia.

Local TV

For about a year before I moved to Sedalia, my family watched over-the-air TV, supplemented by Netflix and Hulu. We were pretty satisfied "cord cutters." In our area, we had all of the major TV networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, CW) available for free. Here in Sedalia, my apartment is in the lower level of a three-story building. My antenna can pick up KMOS, and that's it. The Kansas City and Columbia stations are just a little out of my range. There's nothing wrong with KMOS. I like Antiques Roadshow as much as the next person, but it would be nice to have a few more choices.

Thai Food

We have a lot of good restaurants in Sedalia. There are lots of places for barbecue, steak, Mexican, we even have a cool Irish pub. One thing we don't have is Thai food, which is something I've become a fan of in recent years. Especially Thai tea.

Slackers/Vintage Stock

I love these types of all-in-one entertainment stores, where you can pick up DVDs, CDs, video games, comic books and pop culture novelties. I used to go to Hastings in Warrensburg and in Jefferson City quite a bit, but they've been out of business for a while. It would be cool to have something similar in Sedalia.

Arcade Bar

Have you ever heard of this? I hardly ever drink, and almost never go to bars, unless it's to go out to eat. However, this is something I would like to check out. I read recently in Missouri Life magazine about a trend of a grownup arcades, combined with a bar. You can play the classic video games and pinball machines that we grew up on, while enjoying a drink and bar food.

Something to replace K-Mart

It hasn't been gone very long, but I already miss K-Mart. Probably the number one choice of Sedalians to replace the recently-closed store would be Target. I don't know that Sedalia is on Target's radar, but it would be nice to have some sort of new business set up shop in the old K-Mart location.
