The Sacred Heart Gremlins soccer team defeated La Monte 8-0 in the opening game of the Kaysinger Conference tournament in Stover.

Senior Traven Wheeler started the scoring frenzy with his first goal of the evening from an assist from fellow senior Andres Vanegas. Just minutes later, senior Marcel Walton was fouled in the box and the PK was executed by junior Josh Pacheco. Andres assisted the next goal scored by sophomore Gabriel Malacara within the first 10 minutes of play.

Traven Wheeler made the score 4-0 notching another goal and then he assisted the next goal scored by Josh Pacheco. The most exciting goal of the contest was scored off a corner kick from Josh Pacheco which was headed up into the air by sophomore Noah Damlo and then headed a second time and into the goal by sophomore Max Van Leer.

Gabriel Malcara scored on an assist from Traven Wheeler just before the first half ended. The score at halftime was 7-0.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, senior Andres Vanegas assisted Max Van Leer on another goal and the game was called.

Sacred Heart plays Green Ridge on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 6:45 p.m., in Stover.
