An Independence man was killed in a fiery crash that occurred Sunday morning on I-70.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 67-year-old Independence man was westbound on I-70 at the 38-mile marker when his 1997 Chevy 1500 ran off the roadway, struck a sign post, and a tree before catching fire.

The man was flown by Lifeflight to Research Medical Center before being pronounced dead at 12:12 p.m., by Dr. Liester.

The Chevy 1500 was totaled and towed.

Lafayette County Deputies and Odessa Police assisted the five Troopers on scene.
