Farmer’s Almanac Says Missouri’s Last Frost is Sooner Not Later
I have found some information that will be of special interest to you especially if you're a gardener. Farmer's Almanac has just shared their predicted last frost date for Missouri and it's sooner rather than later.
I came across this share by The Old Farmer's Almanac on their social media pages today. It's a prediction of the last Spring frost date.
The news for Missouri is good if you look forward to warmer planting weather with frost not rearing its ugly head and ruining your tomatoes. Farmer's Almanac says you can plant sooner than the average frost date this year.
I went to their frost date calculator and entered several Missouri zip codes into it. The average last Spring frost date is in mid-April. That means their newly-updated estimate would place the last frost around the end of March if it really is a couple of weeks earlier than normal.
I checked the Old Farmer's Almanac's long-range weather forecast for Missouri and the Heartland states and the outlook is for warmer weather from the middle of March moving forward.
What does the National Weather Service say about Missouri's weather in March and April?
The NWS/NOAA Climate Prediction Center agrees with what the Old Farmer's Almanac says. Their 3-month outlook shows a better than average chance for warmer temperatures for Missouri and much of the Midwest.
It's good to keep in mind how unpredictable Missouri weather can be. Even though both the old school farmer's forecasts and modern meteorologists seem to agree on Spring and planting season arriving sooner than normal, I would not be surprised if Missouri weather doesn't have at least one more winter surprise up its sleeve.
