Sedalia Police Reports for August 14, 2024

Sedalia Police responded to the 300 block of East 2nd Street early Wednesday morning for a domestic disturbance. A primary physical aggressor could not be determined. A 12-hour log was completed.
Early Wednesday morning, Officers made contact with a subject inside the Casey’s store, 1601 East Broadway Boulevard. The subject was believed to be actively stealing. The subject refused to identify himself to Officers. Eventually he was identified, and found to have a felony Pettis County Probation Violation warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Mose Kenneth Watson, 47, Homeless, was arrested for his warrant. Watson was transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a bond of $2,000 cash and $2500 surety.
Tuesday night, Officers stopped a vehicle at the Breaktime store, 808 East Broadway Boulevard, because it had expired registration and had committed several moving violations. Investigation revealed the driver was intoxicated. The suspect was transported to the Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed is BAC to be measured at .191. David A. Hicks, 56, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Hicks was later released to sober driver.
Last Thursday morning, Officers took a report regarding thefts that had occurred over the last several days in the 2800 block of West Main Street. The case was investigated, and a suspect was identified. Several hours later, the suspect was located walking down the street in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Limit Avenue. Travis Alexander Lawson, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Stealing.
A car was stopped in the area of West Main Street and South Stewart Avenue because it had expired plates, and was following other vehicles too closely Tuesday night. The driver was intoxicated by drugs and in possession of a controlled substance. Sarah Charlene Edwards, 38, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Edwards was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.
Tuesday night, Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Stewart Avenue for a report of a burglary in progress. Officers made contact with a female and detained her. Contact was made with the home owner, show stated she wished to pursue charges of Trespassing. During the investigation, it was revealed the suspect was stealing items from inside and outside the home. Kathryn Elizabeth Staats, 56, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Burglary in the 2nd Degree and Stealing From a Building. Staats was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.
Asset Protection Associates at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, advised Police on Tuesday night they had a shoplifter detained. Morgan Harms, 20, Homeless, was arrested for Shoplifting. Harms was released on scene with a citation.
Late on the evening of August 8th, Officers conducted a traffic stop near East 3rd Street and South Lamine Avenue because it was failing to maintain its lane. The driver was arrested for DWI (Drugs) and booked and released at the Pettis County Jail. About two hours later, she was seen driving again. The car was stopped again at East 6th Street and South New York Avenue, after it was observed driving at a high rate of speed, and also because it had no license plate lights. The driver was still impaired. She had watery, glassy, and blood shot eyes. Her excuse for driving was the Officer “didn’t tell her she couldn’t.” A search of the vehicle revealed a flashlight in the center console that was not there in the prior stop. Opening the flashlight, inside was found a large amount of a crystalline substance (approximately 24.9 grams), two syringes, a baggy full of 12 whole blue pills, several broken blue pills, and ten yellow pills. One was identified as Clonazepam, while the other was identified as Alprazolam, both of which are schedule 4 controlled substances. The crystalline substance tested positively for methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl. After explaining Miranda Rights, the suspect refused to give a sample of blood. Kimberly Jane Morrison, 54, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (two counts), felony Trafficking Drugs in the 1st Degree, and Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Morrison was transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash or surety bond of $100,000.
Last Friday morning, Officers observed a car failing to signal a lane change. The subject was recognized as a suspended driver from Illinois. Jonathaon N. Oshea, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Oshea was released on scene with a summons.
Monday night, Officers contacted a driver of an SUV in the area of East 13th Street and South Montgomery Avenue. They were contacted because their front license plate was not property affixed. The driver was intoxicated by drugs. Joseph Edward Hawn, 42, of Warrensburg, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs – Persistent Offender). Hawn was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.
Tuesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a property damage report that occurred in the 1500 block of South Prospect. Officers gathered information to generate a report.
Tuesday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of South Osage Avenue in reference to a possibly missing person. The subject was later located in the 500 block of South Ohio Avenue. The subject was transported to the BRHC for a mental health evaluation after statements of self-harm.
Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department in regards to a report of fraud. Officers gathered information from Kimberly Poindexter and generated a report.
Sedalia Police responded to the 500 block of West 15th Street on the night of August 12th for a report of property damage. Officers arrived on scene and observed the suspect stumbling around on the sidewalk before leaning on a nearby fence. As Officers investigated, they learned a victim identified the suspect as damaging her vehicle. She stated she had heard a commotion outside of her residence, and when she checked, she saw the suspect laying on the ground. He then stood up and began punching the hood of her vehicle three to four times. Officers observed dents on the hood. Two people in the area pointed out the suspect as the perpetrator. When Officers approached him, the suspect took an aggressive posture by balling up his fist. The suspect continued to resist. Shaun Mark Bartlett, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Property Damage in the 1st Degree and Resisting Arrest. Bartlett was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a fit for confinement check due to his level of intoxication. Bartlett was then transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, pending a cash or surety bond of $500.
