The upcoming weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year. That's why you would be wise to pay attention to what the National Weather Service has just said about an incoming system that looks increasingly likely to affect travel.

The newest share from the National Weather Service in St. Louis is chilling - literally

When they say "confidence is increasing", that means they're seeing the computer models starting to agree that much of Missouri will see its first measurable snowfall of this season starting late Friday into Saturday. There are some key takeaways from their newest weather story:

  • Impacts likely north of I-70 in Missouri and Illinois
  • Snow amounts are unknown at this point, but expected to be measurable
  • Precipitation south of I-70 will depend on temperatures and timing

This is one of those times when having a wife as a meteorologist is handy. She said that parts of northern Missouri could see anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow based on models she's looking at right now. She's in agreement with the NWS (good news for them) that snow amounts are hard to estimate because it's impossible to know how much of the snow that falls will melt due to ground temperatures and what the air temperature ends up being. The one thing you really should start to count on is some type of wintry travel late Friday into Saturday in Missouri as the Thanksgiving weekend just got a lot more interesting.
