A Jamesport teen drowned in the Thompson River Monday night in Grundy County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 17-year-old male, whose name was not given, was walking across the Thompson River at SW Beech Lane (just south of Trenton north central Missouri) just after 11 p.m. Monday night, when he fell into a deep hole and went underwater and did not resurface.

Google Maps show that there is a railroad crossing over the river at that point.

The body was recovered at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday by the Grundy County Volunteer Fire Department.

The youth was pronounced deceased at 2:16 a.m. Tuesday by Grundy County Coroner Dewayne Slater. The body was taken to Slater Funeral Home.

Grundy County Deputies, Grundy County Fire and Grundy County EMS assisted the four Troopers on scene.
