Here's a "holiday" that should get more attention than it does. August 8, 2017 is National Frozen Custard Day.

Most of us don't really know the difference between frozen custard and regular old ice cream. Most of us don't need to. It's all good. But, for the record, this is the difference, according to Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers: "Frozen Custard originated on New York's Coney Island at the turn of the 20th century. It's smoother and richer than ice cream, thanks to a time-tested churning process that minimizes ice crystals and excess air."

Several businesses that specialize in frozen custard are offering discounts and specials in order to celebrate National Frozen Custard Day. Some are even using the occasion to help out great causes. Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is offering $1 off frozen custard treats, and they are donating 50 cents from each frozen custard sale to the Kids in Need Foundation. Kids in Need provides free school supplies to teachers and students across the country. In Sedalia, Freddy's is next to JC Penney in the Thompson Hills Shopping Center.
