The Sedalia Park Board has approved the purchase of two 16-Foot Duraflex aluminum diving boards to replace the ones at Liberty Pool at a cost of $16,251.

The approval came during a 16-minute meeting of the board during its regular session Thursday at the Heckart Community Center, 1800 W. 3rd Street.

Recreonics out of Louisville, Kentucky, was the lowest of fourth bidders. The other ones were Landmark Acquatic at $20,415.76, Vaughan Pools at $21,055 and BSN Sports at $28,800.

“You know, everything just keeps going up,” remarked Sedalia Parks & Rec Director Amy Epple. “That’s $8,000 per diving board. When we built the Heckart, they were about $5,000 a piece. So it’s gone up quite a bit.”

She noted that if you can get five years of life out of them, you’re doing good. “We always try to get eight to 10 years out of them. So we’re right at eight years with these.”

Of course with the delay in construction of the east side aquatic center, Liberty Pool will be in service a few years longer as a result.

The $16,251 price includes shipping, Epple said, adding that the boards, once delivered, will be installed by Parks & Rec personnel.

In other Parks & Rec news, Epple noted that the Missouri Department of Conservation is expected to arrive at the Liberty Pond next week to deliver hundreds of fish, including Channel Catfish and Hybrid Sunfish, starting Monday, April 13. Stocking will continue monthly through October, with Trout stocking returning in November.

Also the new aerators in the pond are now in service.

Board member Dan VanDyne presided over Thursday’s meeting in the absence of Board President Jerry Case. Also absent was Garry Holstein. Board member Adam Porter stepped down from his position earlier in the week. A quorum was achieved with five members present.

Epple said she planning for the Park Board to tour the new building being constructed on East Broadway sometime in May. Currently, the building is to be turned over to Parks & Rec staff on Sept. 19, followed by a grand opening for the public on Nov. 9.
