On June 1 at approximately 6:16 a.m., a tractor trailer hauling approximately $60,000 worth of cage-free, organic eggs overturned in the area of Route HH and Cedar Lane in the middle of a construction zone.

Deputy Kameryn Wassam was dispatched along with MSHP Trooper Micah Bennett.

“Thankfully, nobody was injured during this incident, but I wanted to give a shout-out to all of the community members and first responders who assisted in the extensive cleanup of the eggs,” said Pettis County Sherif Brad Anders.

Pettis County Firefighter Dennis Swartzentruber and resident Linford Kauffman were able to round up over a dozen citizens from a nearby Mennonite community to help remove the individual cartons of eggs from the overturned trailer.

“Don’s Trucking and Towing operators Tyler Rank and Brett Rank worked diligently to remove both the truck, trailer, and eggs while MSHP Trooper Bennett also assisted (he will likely have to change into a new uniform as he was able to cover himself in yolk... possibly a new hat. Ditzfeld Container also arrived with two large dumpsters to help dispose of the eggs,” said Sheriff Anders.

“This is just another great example of how this community comes together to assist when needed. I am so very proud to live in such a community; we should all be proud,' Anders commented.
