On Saturday at approximately 8 p.m., the Mid Missouri Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force and Pettis County Deputies conducted a traffic stop at US Highway 50 and Chevalier Road in reference to an on-going drug investigation.

Pettis County Sergeant Long utilized his K9 partner Lord to open air sniff for the odor of narcotics on the vehicle. K9 Lord positively alerted to the odor of narcotics and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the search, a small amount of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. The three occupants of the vehicle, Richard Bain, age 30 of Sedalia, Kendal Brown, age 31 of Smithton, and Laura McCarty, age 26 of Sedalia, were placed into custody. All three occupants of the vehicle were transported to the Pettis County Jail where they were booked on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The suspects’ vehicle was towed from the scene.

Further information was developed which led Pettis County
Deputies back to the vehicle which was still being held by the tow company.

On Monday at approximately 1:20 a.m., another search of the vehicle was conducted which yielded a large amount of narcotics hidden in a hide-away compartment of the vehicle.

The narcotics were seized and transported to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office for further testing. The narcotics tested positive for Fentanyl.

Seized from the vehicle were 1,536 counterfeit M30 Percocet, later identified as Fentanyl, pills weighing approximately 182.63 grams. Similar drugs to these have been linked to numerous drug overdoses in the area.

Charges have been submitted to Pettis County Prosecutor Phillip Sawyer for official filing:

Brown: 1st Degree Trafficking and Delivery of a Controlled Substance

Bain: 1st Degree Trafficking and Delivery of a Controlled Substance

McCarty: 1st Degree Trafficking and Delivery of a Controlled Substance

“This seizure is significant as this is 1,536 potential overdoses and possible deaths.        These pills were destined for Pettis County residents. I am extremely happy with this seizure for the safety of our citizens. A job very well done by all investigators involved,” commented Sheriff Brad Anders.
