Pettis County Commission Votes To Keep Property Tax Rates Below Maximum Allowable Levy
The Pettis County Commission has voted to keep property tax rates below the maximum allowable levy for the upcoming year, effectively lowering the rate compared to what could have been set, according to a press release issued Thursday.
The decision reflects the Commission’s continued commitment to fiscal responsibility and respect for taxpayers during a time when families are already managing higher costs.
Presiding Commissioner Bill Taylor emphasized the importance of running county government efficiently. "We could have levied the full amount allowed by law, but we chose not to. Instead, we are demonstrating that we can live within our means while still delivering the services people count on."

Western Commissioner Mark Edwards noted that the move is part of a broader effort to protect taxpayers and fully utilize our existing levy. "This is about respect and responsibility. Just like households make tough budget choices, we believe county government should do the same while providing the needed services to the residents of the county."
During an open session, the Commission voted to keep the General Revenue Levy at just $0.0900 rather than the maximum $0.9195 and set the Road & Bridge Levy at $0.2874 instead of the higher $0.2920.
Eastern Commissioner Israel Baeza stressed that the decision was about easing the strain on everyday families. "We made a conscious decision to hold the line on property taxes. Families are already feeling the pinch, and our priority is to manage county resources responsibly without adding to that burden.”
By holding property taxes below the maximum allowable level, the Pettis County Commission continues its record of responsible governance, protecting taxpayer dollars while providing essential county services and respecting the citizens, the press release concluded.
