(Marshall, Mo.) — The 25th Annual Pete H. Rea Memorial Golf Tournament, held on July 11 at the Indian Foothills Golf Course raised $17,000 that will be used to offset the purchase of 3D mammography equipment for Fitzgibbon Hospital. Fifty-three teams participated in the annual tournament this year, which was co-directed by Bub Caldwell and Jason Coffman.
Coffman is Caldwell’s successor as tournament director. Caldwell has served as director of the tournament since its inception 25 years ago. The inaugural tournament was held in conjunction with weekend festivities surrounding the opening of the hospital after it moved to its current location on 65 Highway from an aging building on Brunswick Avenue. Pete H. Rea was a long-time member of the Fitzgibbon Hospital Board of Trustees and was among those who helped in directing the board’s decision to re-locate the hospital and construct a new state-of-the-art facility.
In recognition of a quarter century of service in this capacity, Fitzgibbon Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Darin Haug, D.O., presented a plaque to Caldwell. The plaque made note of Caldwell’s community commitment over the years in raising funds to support services at Fitzgibbon Hospital, which is a not-for-profit hospital receiving no public tax support.
Erv Dahl, well-known Rodney Dangerfield impersonator and his son, Drew, entertained golfers throughout the day, courtesy of Wood & Huston Bank, which also helped sponsor the tournament. During the recognition ceremonies Dahl presented Caldwell with a glittery silver sequin-encrusted jacket to recognize his work. Dahl was one of the stars of the ABC talent reality show called “The Next Best Thing”, a competition show which features impersonators.
The 25th Annual Pete H. Rea Memorial Golf Tournament was made possible by 16 sponsors and 58 volunteers.
