The FBI says investigators surveilling three potential suspects as part of a robbery probe shot and killed one of them outside a Walgreen store in suburban Kansas City, Missouri, taking two others into custody.

FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton says the shooting happened about 3:45 a.m. Thursday in Blue Springs after one of the suspects pointed a firearm at one of the investigators.

Patton says the FBI and the Kansas City Police Department's career criminal squad have been investigating business robberies throughout the area.

As part of that, three individuals were being surveilled when they entered the Walgreen store and were confronted by law enforcers as they exited.

The names of the dead potential suspect and the two taken into custody were not released.
