For the first time in 35 years, the Smith-Cotton men’s golf program will compete at the MSHSAA State Championship after winning the 2022 Class 4, District 4 title on Monday at Drumm Farm Golf Club in Independence.

The Tigers shot 346, edging out host school Grain Valley, which finished with 348.

Leading the Tigers was Boyd Callis with an 82, followed by Jax Boeschen and Keaton Mateja with 87s, and Carson Hunolt with a 90. Karson Weymuth finished the scoring for the Tigers with a 94.

S-C Golf Head Coach Chris Guffey said: “The scores were higher than we were expecting for the day. That is a result of the wind and course conditions being much more difficult than anyone was projecting. Our guys battled through adversity and kept up their march toward a historic season. Today we had to focus on just continuing forward, no matter the challenges. Every single person on this team made this moment possible.”

The MSHSAA Class 4 Golf State Championship will be played May 16-17 at Meadowlake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.
