Smith-Cotton High School senior Lucy Mahalovich has accepted academic and music scholarships at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
Mahalovich, the daughter of Amy and Tim Mahalovich, is a four-year letter winner in band and theatre, and two-year letter winner in choir.

She is a member of National Honor Society, serving as historian for the S-C High Chapter in 2021-22. She was named Outstanding Freshman in Band in 2019, served as a drum major for the Smith-Cotton Tiger Pride Marching Band in 2021 and 2022, and received the Senior Achievement Award in Band for the 2021-22 school year.

Mahalovich was named to the West Central Missouri Music Educators Association Honorable Mention band (ninth chair trumpet) in 2022, and the WCMMEA All-District Honor Choir in 2021.

At the 2022 MSHSAA District Music Festival, Mahalovich earned an Exemplary rating in the solo division and an Outstanding rating as part of a small ensemble. At this year’s MSHSAA State Music Festival, she received a bronze medal in the solo division.

S-C Director of Bands Max Meigel said, “Lucy Mahalovich is a joy to have in our music programs. Lucy's leadership and musicianship have served as great examples for her fellow band members, and we admire how active she always is across the entire school. Many of her fellow students listed Lucy among those band members they look up to, for her kindness more than anything."

Dr. Bill Richardson, professor of Trumpet and Jazz Ensembles at Northwest Missouri State University, is looking forward to working with Mahalovich as her trumpet instructor.

“Lucy is a very, very fine trumpet player and vocalist,” Richardson said. “We’re really excited to have her participate in the groups; I think she’ll be a strong contributor to the department as a whole.”
