Sacred Heart emerged victorious from the first round of the Barstow Tournament.

In a match up of #4 vs #5, the Gremlins prevailed over the defending district champions, scoring three second half goals for a 4-2 win.

The Gremlins struck first with a goal from Juan Fernandez, assisted by Ian Viscarra in the 29th minute. SH continued to threaten, but were unable to find the back of the net. Lone Jack then scored off a corner kick, with a headed ball to the upper 90, just evading goalkeeper Dallin Chappell’s reach.

The second half saw the Gremlins open up their offense with two more goals from Fernandez. Ian Viscarra capitalized off a foul in the box and buried a penalty kick to put the Gremlins up for good.

The Gremlins completed 168 passes successfully in the first half alone. Dominating possession, the Grems showed impressive maturity and patience. The back five of John Ulbrich, Jude Rollings, Juan Pablo Suarez, Kobey Hill and Jaysen Gerke showed exceptional poise.

Dallin Chappell recorded the winning goal with eight saves.

Sacred Heart plays Platte County Thursday.
