Sedalia Approves Bid to Replace Corner Sidewalks at Third & Lamine

Sedalia City Council approved a $32,565 bid from Poort Excavating on Monday night to replace a hazardous sidewalk at Third and Lamine.

The area that surrounds the northwest corner of Coach's Bar & Grill is considered dangerous due to coal chutes that existed decades ago that led to the basement and were covered up with a sidewalk.

Now that very sidewalk is covering up a public safety hazard of cavities down below as evidenced by failing sidewalk material. The ultimate danger is a collapse of the sidewalk into the empty space below it when someone may be walking past Coach's, 303 South Lamine.

Therefore, $48,000 was budgeted for the project, which includes basement fill, and the bid came in at $32,565. The work is expected to be completed in 30 days.
