UPDATE:

Council approved the bid from Double Arch Construction during a five-minute special meeting Friday, by a vote of seven yes, one absent (Second Ward Councilwoman Tina Boggess).

Mayor Andrew Dawson told KSIS that the bridge may be re-opened to traffic as soon as April, with final completion of the project in May.

A performance bond will need to be finalized first, however, the mayor said. That should take about two weeks before actual work on the north and south approaches begins.

First Ward Councilman Jack Robinson questioned the difference between Double Arch's bid, and the other two, much higher bids.

Third Ward Councilman Bob Hiller explained to Robinson that the highest bid came from a company from Olathe that was asking for about $200,000 in mobilization fees just to get their crews and equipment in place here in Sedalia before work even begins.

That figure is in contrast with Double Arch, based out of Florence in Morgan County, which is charging only around $50,000 in mobilization fees. Florence is about 20 miles from Sedalia.

The Sedalia City Council will meet in special session at 12:15 today reference a bid for the Washington Street Bridge Approach rehab from Double Arch Construction, LLC, (Florence, Mo.) for $662,874.

Double Arch was the low bidder of three, with the other two companies being Comanche Construction (Olathe, Kan.) at $911,320.20, and Gene Haile Excavating (California, Mo.) at $952,250.
