I’ve had the pleasure of working with many civic clubs in Sedalia, whether it be Pettis County Rotary, Sedalia Rotary, Sunrise Optimists, Noonday Optimists, Lions Club, Sedalia ELKS, Sedalia Kiwanis, the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, VFW, 40 & 8, American Legion and many others.

While we get the chance to cover their activities, it is not often they all have an appreciation day. This Saturday (Jan. 26), State Fair Community College will have Civic Club Night, where members of the various civic clubs get in free for the basketball games when the State Fair Community College Roadrunners have a double-header. Civic club members may pick up free admission passes at their club meetings.

The SFCC Booster Club also will hold its annual chili and soup supper from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on campus.

Meal tickets are $5 per adult and $3 per child age 12 and under are available from Booster Club members or at the door. The price of the ticket includes soup or chili, a drink and dessert, but does not include admission to the game, which is $5 per adult and $3 per student age 12 and above. Children under 12 and people over 60 are admitted free.

SFCC will host Mineral Area College. The Lady Roadrunners will play at 5:30 p.m. and the Roadrunners at 7:30 p.m.

I’ve often said that Missouri is full of great caring people that like to help people whenever possible or needed. There are some amazing people who like to go the extra mile, whether it be to put together a fundraiser, take care of family while the breadwinner is sick even if they’re not related, donate towards a cause or extend the word on a promotion.

One of the great things about this area is that if you want to help, there are many different ways to do so. One way that I really enjoyed giving back was joining a civic club a couple of years ago. In Sedalia alone there are numerous ones that you can join. They may all meet at different locations, days and times, but they all stand for one thing. Bringing a community together.

Civic Club Night may give fans of the Roadrunners the chance to talk with the civic clubs about becoming members. They truly do great things and I hope you get the chance to cheer on the Roadrunners, enjoy some chili and of course basketball.

If you are in a civic group, remember that Behka Cramer can list your meetings, activities, and community messages in our community calendar.
