Sedalia Council Amends Food Truck Ordinance
The Sedalia City Council on Monday night modified provisions regarding the licensing of mobile food vendors (food trucks) operating in the City of Sedalia.
A three-day license will be offered to those who don't want to pay for an annual license. A three-day license will cost $25.
In addition, the Council in the Public Works Committee:
*Amended an agreement with MC Power Companies, Inc., to limit a performance bond to construction only. The amendment was requested by the bonding company.
*Approved a contract with MC Power Companies, Inc., for $18,804.95 to repair a starter assembly for one of the wells supplying water to the City.
*Approved a one-year extension of a contract with Duke's Root Control, Inc., to chemically control tree root penetration into the City's sewer system, at a cost of $23,646.93.
*Okayed a change order with MC Power to raise a solar array project at the water filtration plant 18 inches for flood control (due to the proximity of Flat Creek) at a cost of $23,663.11. The vote was 6-2, with 2nd Ward Councilman Andrew Dawson and 3rd Ward Council Bob Cross voting against the agreement.
"I feel that should be MC Power's problem," Cross said. "They messed up. They should take care of the problem at their own cost."
*Approved expansion of a project to rehab and upgrade the Main Street Lift Station (Water Pollution Control Department) to include construction management and inspection services at a cost of $35,340 with Olsson. A comprehensive review of the plant design was also requested at at cost of $20,464.
Under Community Development, the Council:
*Approved an amended schedule to reflect more closely the actual cost of recovery for abatements for property maintenance code infractions.
Councilman Dawson noted that the 2006 fee schedule was outdated. "So now the new fee schedule will reflect the true cost," he said.
The Council meeting led off with recognizing two service awards, one special award and a retirement.
Administrative Assistant Cherie Fredrickson was recognized for 35 years of service in the Sanitation Department.
Public Works Maintenance Operator Robert Reason was recognized for 35 years of service in the Street Department.
Officer Brett Twenter was recognized for being named Sedalia Police Officer of the Year 202. (top photo). Ofc. Twenter began his law enforcement career with the SPD in 2019. He was officially recognized April 13 at The Venue by the department during its annual awards ceremony.
According to a press release from the SPD, ““From the beginning, Officer Twenter established himself as an extremely proactive officer who specialized in drug interdiction. Officer Twenter made countless drug cases at the patrol level, and then used his investigative skill to uncover far greater illegal activity within our community. Officer Twenter is a team player who cooperates well with his shift mates and other investigative units within the department, along with members of neighboring agencies. When not fielding calls for service or getting dangerous drugs off the streets of Sedalia, Officer Twenter is involved in department recruiting and is a member of the Entry Team. Officer Twenter brings a positive attitude, dedication to service and community involvement to each shift.”
And former City Attorney Anne Gardner was recognized for 26 years, eight months of service to Sedalia.
Ofc. Twenter was the only award recipient present Monday night.
There were four reappointments to the Citizens Traffic Advisory Committee:
Chuck Leftwich, 908 West Broadway; John Rucker, 909 South Arlington; Dennis Henderson, 2702 Clarendon Road; and James Callis, 3217 Cunningham Court.
All four will serve a three-year term expiring June of 2024.
Two people were reappointed to the Sedalia Park Board, including Connie Washington, 721 West Cooper; and Dan VanDyke, 2800 Gregory Lane. Both will serve a three-year-term expiring June of 2024.
One new liquor license was approved: Kristy Long, dba Wildlife Ridge Winery, 34751 Miller Road, Smithton, for a special event (Jacob Lewis' Wedding) at The Venue, 219 South Ohio, on May 22, $15.
Four liquor licenses were renewed, including:
*Joseph Fischer, dba Liberty Center Association for the Arts, Inc., 111 West 5th, for liquor by the drink, $450.
*Daniela Reyes, dba Taqueria El Costenco, LLC, 801 West 16th for packaged liquor, liquor by the drink and Sunday Sales, $900.
*Vipul Patel, dba Liquor Locker A, LLC, 513 West Main, for packaged liquor and Sunday Sales, $450.
*Brett Sorrell, dba VFW Post 2591, 121 South Ohio, for packaged liquor and Sunday Sales, $450.
The meeting concluded at 7:15 after a lengthy discussion about "Pettis County Development Company" planning to install a landfill in Pettis County. Nearby landowners were in strong opposition to the plan and asked for help from the City of Sedalia.
