Early Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 500 block of West 7th Street for a report of a cardiac arrest. Officers arrived about a minute after they were dispatched, and found an unconscious subject. The subject had a steady heartbeat, but ineffective breathing, and they were unconscious on the floor. Recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose, Officers immediately administered NARCAN. Four minutes after NARCAN was administered, the unconscious person woke up with a start. They were then taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.


 

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to Welch Court for a report of burglary. Officers gathered information for a report.


 

Sunday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West 11th Street in reference to a report of a hit and run accident. Hannah Phipps stated someone had struck her vehicle and left the scene within the last hour.


 

Sedalia Police responded to the 1500 block of South Warren Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance Sunday night. The complainant stated she was assaulted by her boyfriend, and she had sustained injuries. The suspect fled the scene before Officers arrived. The suspect was located shortly after and began fighting with Officers. Officers were able to secure the suspect without injuries. Michael Edward Miller, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested on a felony charge of Resisting Arrest and Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. Miller was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.


 

Saturday morning, Officers took a report in the lobby of the Sedalia Police Department. Mandi A. Christan stated an attempted burglary had occurred in the evening hours of April 5th, in the 2500 block of Wing Avenue.


 

Last Tuesday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Carr Avenue for a report of theft. Officers gathered information for a report.


 

Saturday afternoon, Sedalia Police, Sedalia Fire, and the Pettis County Ambulance District were dispatched to a medical call in the 1000 block of South State Fair Boulevard. Upon arrival, it was determined the patient was deceased beyond life-saving measures. No foul play is suspected.


 

Saturday morning, Officers conducted a warrant check in the 1000 block of West 4th Street. A male subject was arrested on a felony warrant that was issued on April 2nd, 2024. The warrant was issued after investigation into an incident that occurred on March 19th, 2024. Officers had responded to the 400 block of East 13th Street in reference to a domestic assault. Officers spoke with a resident, who stated the suspect had come in while she was sleeping, and woke her up yelling. He then hit her in the face, went outside, and then punched the glass on the front door, breaking it. The victim’s daughter locked the door behind the suspect. The suspect reached through the broken glass window on the door and grabbed the daughter, pushing her against the wall. He then punched her in the face. The daughter had visible injuries to her lip, and declined medical attention. The suspect left behind his wallet, and left in a white Mitsubishi, most likely to his mother’s house. Officers went to the Mother’s house, noted the vehicle was parked outside, and attempted to make contact. The woman who answered the door gave an immediate “no” when asked if Officers could speak with the suspect. The probable cause statement notes the woman was very uncooperative, and claimed the suspect was not present. Contact was made with the suspect, and he was placed under arrest. Justin Lee Denny, 43, Homeless, was arrested on a charge of Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree and felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety, with bond conditions stating Denny is to have no contact of any kind with the alleged victim.


 

On the afternoon of April 4th, Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Harrison Avenue for a report of found property. Officers seized the property and placed it into evidence for safekeeping.

Saturday afternoon, Officers responded to the Police Station lobby in reference to a report of a suicidal subject. Officers spoke to the reporting party. They claimed their significant other was at home and had their firearm, and threatened to harm themselves with it. Officers then responded to the address of the alleged suicidal subject in the 500 block of West 2nd Street. The subject stated they were not suicidal, and never made those claims. A firearm was located in the residence. The firearm, belonging to the reporting party, was seized for safekeeping.


 

Friday afternoon, Anne Tempel came to the lobby of the Police Department to report a theft. Tempel stated a mattress had been stolen from the 1500 block of South Barrett Avenue on March 4th, 2024.


 

On the afternoon of April 1st, an employee of Wal Mart, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, reported a theft that occurred at the business.


 

Officers took a report in the lobby of the Police Department on the afternoon of April 4th. Melandria Drianis reported she had been scammed over the phone from the 500 block of South Grand Avenue.


 

Early Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Prospect Avenue in reference to suspicious activity. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with three subjects who were trespassing on an abandoned property, going through a dumpster. One subject fled the scene after being advised to stop. The subject was later located and was found to have an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued on April 2nd, on charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony Fraudulent Use of a Credit Device. The subject was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance, with the intent to distribute. Fredrick Thomas Curry Jr., 43, Homeless, was arrested on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Distribution and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, felony Resisting Arrest, and his warrant, which carried no bond. Curry was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold. There was no information in the report about the other two subjects on scene.


 

Sedalia Police spoke with a subject Saturday night who had come to the Police Station lobby to turn herself in on an active warrant. The subjects’ information was checked with Dispatch, and it was confirmed she had a warrant out of Pettis County with a bond amount*. Alexa R. Haskew, 38, of Independence, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, pending a cash or surety bond of $3500.


 

Late on the night of April 1st, Officers responded to the 700 block of East 9th Street in reference to a theft. Nicholas R. McKeon stated his motorcycle was stolen from the housing authority. McKeon was unable to provide any information on the motorcycle to have it entered as stolen. At this time, a general information report was made until further information is provided.


 

Last Monday afternoon, Officers took a report at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, for three different instances of reported theft that occurred at the business.


 

Officers conducted a warrant check at the intersection of East 7th Street and South Montgomery Avenue Saturday evening. The subject was found to have an active Pettis County warrant for his arrest. The warrant had been issued on April 2nd. The original incident occurred on the afternoon of February 12th, 2024. In the original incident, Officers were dispatched to a report of a subject doing drugs in a City Park. Officers located the subject at Centennial Park, 1400 East 16th Street, lying in the grass. When Officers approached the suspect, they watched him lift a glass pipe to his mouth and attempt to light the glass with a lighter. Officers stopped him, field tested the pipe, and it tested positively for methamphetamine. Randy Loren Veeder, 47, Homeless, was arrested for his warrant on charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Veeder was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in, pending a cash or surety bond of $5,000.


 

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Winchester Drive in regards to a welfare check. The reporting party stated they were woken up by their neighbor banging on the door. It appeared the subject had limited clothing on, and seemed distraught. After locating the subject, it was determined the subject was suffering from a mental health crisis and required family supervision. A report was generated at the Department of Senior Services was contacted.


 

Sedalia Police responded to Hubbard Park, 601 North Missouri Avenue on the evening of April 5th. Officers made contact with the subjects, and ran their information through Dispatch. Dispatch advised one subject had an active Pettis County warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License from June of 2022. Luis Alberto Sotelo Alvarado, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash or surety bond of $1500.


 

Officers responded to assist medical staff with a disturbance several times over a four-hour time period from April 5th through April 6th in the 600 block of East 14th Street. A crime of Misusing 911 was committed. However, the report notes that with “the totality of circumstances, charges are not being requested at this time.”


 

Friday night, Officers conducted a warrant check in the 2700 block of South Grand Avenue. Officers were able to make contact with the subject, and checked his information with Dispatch. Officers confirmed he had an active warrant out of Pettis County. That warrant was issued on April 4th, 2024, pertaining to an incident that occurred in September 2023. In the original incident, Officers observed a red SUV driving on West 16th Street with an expired license plate, and the driver was known to be revoked. Officers stopped the vehicle, and after arresting him for Driving While Revoked, found a small ball of foil in his pocket, which the suspect admitted he had used to smoke fentanyl. The probable cause report noted the driver had a prior conviction for Driving While Suspended from 2022 and a DWI from 2009. Colten Miner Ditton, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for his warrant on charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and misdemeanor Driving While Revoked. Ditton was transported to the Petits County Jail, pending a cash or surety bond of $15,000.


 

Sedalia Police conducted a vehicle stop in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Limit Avenue Saturday morning. Officers made contact with the driver, and checked his information. The driver was found to have a suspended driving status. Michael S. Keithley, 48, of Florence, was issued a citation for Driving While Suspended and released from the scene.


 

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of West 11th Street and South Harrison Avenue Friday morning in reference to a motor vehicle collision with possible injuries. Officers made contact with the drivers, and one of them provided false information. After investigation, it was learned that he not only provided false information, but had also taken the vehicle he was operating without permission from the owner. The suspect’s true identity was discovered through a fingerprint scanner. It was learned he had a probation and parole warrant out Boone County on an original charge of felony Burglary in the 2nd Degree, and he also had a warrant from Pettis County on charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony Tampering with Physical Evidence. Brandon Todd Swearingin, 34, Homeless, was arrested for his warrants, as well as a charge of Identity Theft and Tampering With a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree. Bond on the Pettis County warrant was set at $7500 cash or surety, while the Boone County Parole Violation warrant carried no bond. Swearingin was transported to the BRHC for treatment of minor injuries before being booked in at the Pettis County Jail.


 

*According to Casenet, 23CO-CR00074 states Haskew is on Probation for a charge of Driving While Intoxicated from 2022 out of Cooper County, not Pettis County. Haskew has no other current criminal charges listed online.
