Sedalia Police Reports for August 19, 2024

Sunday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that appeared be attempting to elude them in the area of Wilkerson and South Vermont Avenue. The driver was found to have a revoked license. Kyle Wayne Wissman, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility, Failure to Register with the DOR, and Driving While Revoked.
Saturday night, a car was stopped in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and Industrial Drive for several moving violations. The driver was impaired. Aubreona Donnell Brooks, 18, of Marshall, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Brooks was booked and released at the Pettis County Jail.
Sedalia Police responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in regards to a theft. Officers made contact with a female subject, who reported a female suspect had stolen merchandise from the store. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the store. Madalyn Kay Harrison, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Shoplifting. Harrison was released with a court date.
Sunday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. Officers checked the driver’s information through Dispatch, and confirmed he had a warrant out of Marshall for failing to stop at a stop sign. Tylor Daniel Joseph Sayers, 28, of Sedalia, was arrested for his warrant. Sayers was later turned over to the custody of the Marshall Police Department, pending a cash bond of $50.00.
Officers observed a Mini Cooper speed past the Sedalia PD DWI Enforcement checkpoint on Sunday night while eastbound on West Broadway Boulevard near South Missouri Avenue. It failed to maintain its lane several times and followed too closely to a vehicle in front of it. The vehicle was stopped near East Broadway Boulevard and South Hancock Avenue. Daniel Wesley Bremer, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for Improper Lane Usage, Following Too Closely, and felony Driving While Intoxicated (Alcohol, Persistent Offender). Bremer was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.
Sunday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in regards to a verbal disturbance. On arrival, Officers gathered information and arrested on suspect. Elizabeth Esqueda, 37, of Sedalia, was given a city summons for Shoplifting and released on scene.
Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of West 7th Street in reference to a physical domestic disturbance. On arrival, Officers separated both parties. During the incident, an item was broken. Charges are being sought against the suspect, who was not named in the report.
On the morning of August 17th, Officers observed a car travelling eastbound on East Broadway Boulevard, east of South Marshall Avenue. As it negotiated the first curve, it crossed several feet outside of its lane. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle near Highway M and Broadway. The driver provided another identity that was not her own, and was found to be lying. Elizabeth Marugenia Rochin, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without A Valid License, Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility, and Identity Theft. Rochin was booked and released at the Pettis County Jail.
Sedalia Police responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in regards to a fraud report. Officers arrived on scene and collected information to generate a report.
Sunday morning, Officers were dispatched to the area of West 16th Street and South Limit Avenue in reference to a careless driver. On arrival, Officers located the vehicle stopped at a gas station in the area of West 14th Street and South Limit Avenue. On arrival, Officers identified the driver and discovered his driving privileges were suspended. James Richard Esselman Jr., 51, of Smithton, was arrested on a charge o Driving While Suspended. Esselman was released on scene with a citation.
Officers stopped a truck in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and Westwood Avenue after I failed to maintain its lane and failed to yield to an emergency vehicle on Sunday morning. The driver was found to be intoxicated. Brandi J. Price, 43, of Cleveland Missouri, was arrested on a charge of Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and Driving While Intoxicated (Alcohol). Price was booked in pending release to a sober person at the Pettis County Jail.
Last Wednesday morning, a car was stopped in the area of South Vermont Avenue and West 9th Street for moving violations and indicators of impaired driving. The driver was found to be intoxicated by drugs. Kenneth Dale Leither, 66, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of felony Driving While Intoxicated (Class D*). Leither was transported to the Pettis County Jail, to be placed on 24-hour hold.

Asset Protection Employees reported witnessing a subject shoplift several small items from the store. The suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Suzanne M. Torres, 48, of Jefferson City, was arrested on a charge of Shoplifting and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Torres was placed on a 24-hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.
Officers were dispatched to check on the welfare of an individual at the AT&T Store, 3185 West Broadway Boulevard Saturday afternoon. Officers made contact with the suspect, and found he was trespassing. Dwight Albert Trester II, 62, Homeless, was arrested two counts of Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Trester was transported to the Pettis County Jail.
Saturday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the area of 800 East 4th Street in reference to a physical domestic disturbance. On arrival, Officers gathered information from both parties. A primary aggressor was not identified. A 12-hour log report was submitted.
Saturday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to Tigerland Motors, 1303 South Limit Avenue, in regards to a subject trespassing. On arrival, Officers took the intoxicated subject into protective custody. Jared Ward Sanders, 43, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 12-hour safekeeping hold.
Sedalia Police responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in regards to a theft on Friday afternoon. Ethan Joseph King, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Shoplifting. Goggans was released on scene with a city summons.
Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the Neat Tooling Solutions, 1201 West Henry Street for a report of a forgery. Contact was made with a female subject who stated several checks were forged with the company’s bank account and routing numbers. Money was withdrawn from the business account.
Officers responded to the 400 block of West 21st Street Friday night in regards to a physical domestic disturbance in progress. Officers made contact with the victim and the suspect in the backyard of the residence, screaming at each other. Officers began to speak with the victim, who stated she and her husband had been fighting over him cheating on her. She stated he became irate and called her a “whore”. She said he then threw a cell phone at her face and chest. The victim did have a red mark on her right cheek. While Officers were speaking with the suspect, he was uncooperative. He kept attempting to walk away. After he began to resist, two Officers placed his hands behind his person and secured him in handcuffs. The suspect then began screaming at the victim. Officers placed him in the backseat of the patrol vehicle, and could still hear him screaming at the victim. Michael L. Baust, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree, and Resisting Arrest. Baust, who the report notes was intoxicated, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.
Friday evening, a traffic stop was conducted in the 2500 block of West Broadway Boulevard. During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle was found to have a Probation Violation warrant out of Carrol County on original charges of felony Non-Support of a Minor Child. Christopher S. Terry, 35, of Sedalia, was arrested for his arrant and transported to the Petits County Jail pending a cash only bond of $5,000. He was also given several bond conditions.**
Sedalia Police responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in regards to a theft on Friday afternoon. Jazmin Rose Goggans, 22, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Shoplifting. Goggans was released on scene with a city summons.
Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Thompson Road for a warrant check. One suspect was taken into custody without incident. Joseph Kulian, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested for his felony warrant on charges of Driving While Revoked. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.
Friday morning, Officers responded to the Casey’s store, 716 West 16th Street, in reference to a theft report. Officers gathered the information. The suspect was later located, and the property was recovered and returned to the owner. Dalton Wright, 31, Homeless, was arrested for Theft and a Pettis County warrant on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibly, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without A Valid License. Wright was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.
* In Missouri, a DWI offense can be a Class D felony if the defendant is an aggravated offender or if the DWI causes serious injury:
• Aggravated offender
A person who has been convicted of at least three prior DWI offenses in Missouri, or at least two separate intoxication-related traffic offenses, one of which led to the death or injury of another person
• Serious injury
If the DWI caused serious bodily harm to a law enforcement officer, emergency services personnel, or any other person
The punishment for a Class D felony is up to seven years in prison and similar fines. Other factors that can influence the sentence include the defendant's prior criminal history.
**Special Conditions were given, listed in Casenet 21CR-CR00004-01: “The Court finds that the conditions of release under Rule 33.01(b) are not adequate to secure Defendant's appearance or the safety of the community or other persons. In determining and setting the least restrictive condition or combination of conditions of release to set and imposed, the court has first considered non-monetary conditions. The court finds that non-monetary conditions alone will not secure the appearance of the defendant tor the safety of the community or other person. The court has considered the defendant's ability to pay. The following conditions of release are set and imposed, which are the least restrictive necessary to secure Defendant's appearance or the safety of the community or other persons: Appear in court in which this case is prosecuted from time to time as required to answer to the alleged probation violation. Submit to the orders, judgment and sentence, and process of the court. Not commit any new offenses and will not tamper with any victim or witness in the case, nor have any person do so on the Defendant's behalf. Comply fully with any and all conditions imposed by the court. Report regularly to probation officer as directed.. Seek employment or maintain current employment. Execute a monetary bond in the amount of $5,000.00 and the deposit in the registry of the court of 10 percent of such sum in cash or negotiable bonds of the United States or the State of Missouri or any political subdivision. Comply with terms of probation and directives given by the probation officer.”
