Sedalia Police Reports for August 20, 2024

On the evening of August 15th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by a subject known to have a suspended driver’s license. The stop took place in the area near South Montgomery Avenue and East 4th Street. The driver’s identity was confirmed. Roger Wayne Lindsey Sr., 60, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Lindsey was transported to the Police Department to be issued a UTT for DWS, and then released.
Early Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Casey’s store, 3050 South Limit Avenue in reference to a subject stealing from the store. The suspect has been identified, and information was gathered for a report.
On the morning of August 16th, Officers were dispatched to a traffic crash on West Saline Street near Albright Court. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a blood draw via PCAD. The suspect consented to the blood draw and was released to the custody of the BRHC for treatment due to his level of intoxication. Adiran E. Flores, 19, of Sedalia, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Class D Felony*).
Monday night, Officers stopped a vehicle at East 16th Street and South Center Avenue because it had a brake light out. During the investigation, it was revealed the passenger had a warrant out of Saline County**. Sarah Sue Kearney, 41, of Houstonia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail.
Friday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop near South Limit Avenue and West Main Street on a vehicle that been observed speeding. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. The subject was transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where she provided a breath sample that showed her BAC to be above 0.08. Santana Raine Brookman, 32, of Columbia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Brookman was fingerprinted, issued a UTT, and released to a sober driver.
On the afternoon of August 15th, Officers conducted an investigative traffic stop at the intersection of West 2nd Street and South Ohio Avenue. Officers discovered the driver of the vehicle did not have a valid license. Veronica Rafael, 45, of Sedalia was arrested on a charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License. Rafael was booked and released.
Sunday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was being operated by a driver known to have a revoked driving status. The driver’s identity was confirmed, and he was arrested. Reggie Ervin Townsend, 62, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on charges of Driving While Suspended.
Early Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near West 16th Street and South Grand Avenue. The registered owner of the vehicle was known to have an outstanding Petti County warrant for their arrest. The subject was identified, and the warrant was confirmed. Jose Castelan Reyes, 27, of Smithton, was arrested for his FTA warrant from 2023 on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License, and Driving While Intoxicated (Alcohol). Bond was set at $1500 cash or surety.
Friday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. The stop took place near West Broadway Boulevard and South Harrison Avenue. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver had a suspended driving status. James Lopez Wright Bennett, 45, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Suspended. Bennett was fingerprinted and released with a citation.
Monday evening, Officers made a truck stop on a truck with no license plates in the area of South Ohio Avenue and West 2nd Street. During the investigation, it was discovered an occupant of the vehicle had a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued in July of 2024 after the suspect violated his probation on original charges of felony Driving While Suspended. Russell W. Kelso, 53, of Malta Bend, was arrested for his warrant and booked in at the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash only bond of $10,000.
Sedalia Police responded to a disturbance in the 1500 block of South Harrison Avenue. Officers spoke with Hope Leeanna Rivera, and gathered more information. The suspect had already left the scene. Charges were submitted to the Pettis County Prosecutor’s Office.
On the afternoon of August 9th, Officers took a report of theft in the lobby of the Police Department. Ethan L. Stout stated several pieces of property that belonged to him were stolen from the 1800 block of South Harrison Avenue.
Monday morning, officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of West 16th Street and South Ohio Avenue on a pickup truck because it was failing to display registration. Officers discovered the driver of the vehicle had a suspended license. Mario Lopez Mulato***, 32, was arrested for Driving While Suspended, Failure to Register with the DOR, and No Proof of Insurance.
Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to a lost property report. Paul Juergens reported he lost his wallet at the State Fair. The owner was given a report number in order to get a replacement ID.
Last Thursday morning, Detectives with the Crime Resolution Unit conducted a search warrant in the area of the 1000 block of East 4th Street. While searching an outside tool chest, Officers found a black digital scale. Officers had also routinely surveilled the suspect, and saw him working on things in yard. Detectives recognized one of many bicycles and motor bikes outside as being stolen, including one that was custom built, valued at approximately $1500. The suspect said he bought the bicycle from a “crackhead” for $50, saying he “thought it would be hot”, and declined to say who he had brought it from. The suspect directed Officers to a pair of jeans just inside the east entrance of the home. Inside the jeans, Officers located a pipe with a heavy residue of methamphetamine. In another pocket of the jeans, Officers located a plastic baggie that contained methamphetamine (approximately 1 gram). Officers located a Crown Royal bag that contained two syringes, another small baggie of a crystalline substance, a digital scale, and numerous empty plastic baggies that appeared unused. Officers also found a glass pipe in the cushion of the couch, along with a cell phone. The Suspect gave Officers access to his cell phone. In the phone, Officers could see numerous messages pertaining to drug sales. Gary Gene Brown Jr., 55, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Stealing, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia****. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Monday morning, Officers took a report in the lobby of the Police Department regarding a fraudulent situation in the 1000 block of West 3rd Street. Information was gathered for a report. Through investigation, it was determined at this time no crime has been committed.
On the evening of August 15th, a call came regarding an animal in a vehicle in the area of West 5th Street and South Park Avenue. Upon arrival, the animal was located. The owner of the animal came out and let the animal out of the vehicle. Rigoberto Elliott Rome Torres-Mejia, 18, of Sedalia was issued a citation for Animal Abuse.
*In Missouri, a third DWI offense is considered to be a Class D Felony, “Persistent Offender.” If convicted, the individual will be sentenced to up to four years in prison or one year in the county jail. The individual will also be fined for as much as $5,000.
**The only listing in Casenet for a “Sarah Sue Kearney” or a “Sarah Sue Wood” from Saline County is 701699610. It is a Speeding ticket issued to Kearney in 2015. There is a warrant issued in that case, but it is marked as “recalled/withdrawn” on November 12, 2015. Kearney does have a court date upcoming in September on felony charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree and four felony charges of Stealing a Firearm, but there is not a warrant currently needing service for her arrest in that case.
***Mulato’s address is listed as “Itinerant worker, Unknown, AK”.
****The charges in Casenet 24PT-CR01261 have been amended to felony Delivery of a Controlled Substance, felony Receiving Stolen Property, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
