Tuesday night, Officers responded to the Rest Haven Nursing Home in response to a disturbance. The subject was causing a disturbance, and found to have an active warrant for their arrest from Pettis County. The warrant was issued in April of 2024 after an incident in January of the same year. In the initial incident, Officers were called to the nursing home to investigate an assault. The Officers were told the suspect displayed violent behavior earlier in the day, and he’d been taken to BRHC by PCAD for evaluation. Upon his return to the nursing home, the staff claimed the suspect had received no treatment. He got agitated and started fighting staff, yelling at residents. Staff also noted he had been fighting them and had spit in a victim’s face. Two witnesses told Officers they had to hold him down to keep him from continuing to assault staff. He then came out of this room completely naked and told first responders that he’d been assaulted by “that short b**ch” (referring to nursing staff). The probable cause report notes the suspect did not have any injuries. Staff stated the suspect suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, and they had recently learned he displayed violent behaviors, although they were not advised of this when they accepted him as a patient. The staff wished to pursue charges, even though the suspect is not deemed mentally capable enough to be his own guardian. Staff noted that if the suspect should return to the facility, he would pose a threat to staff and residents. Jeffrey Wayne Hobbs, 64, of Sedalia, was arrested on his warrant, which carried charges of felony Assault in the 3rd Degree. Hobbs was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, pending a bond of $1500 cash or surety.
