Sedalia Police Reports For July 1, 2022

On the evening of June 29th, Daisy N. Marcos-Rubio came to the Police Department to report a theft. Marcos-Rubio reported that between July 2021 and September 2021, property was purchased in the 700 block of West 4th Street for an amount over $1000. The victim would later learn the original property owner couldn't sell the property because of a pending civil issue. The original property owner sold the properties anyway.

On June 26th, an assault was reported in the 800 block of East 4th Street. Officers investigated the incident and determined the victim was in the street standing in front of the suspect vehicle, when the suspect drove forward, striking the victim. The victim received minor injuries as a result of the incident. The suspect was located. Joseph M. Jones, 63, of Sedalia, was charged with Assault.

Early Friday morning, Officers performed a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet passenger car. The vehicle had pulled out in front of the Officer's vehicle in the 3000 block of South Lamine Avenue, nearly causing a collision. Investigation revealed the driver was intoxicated. Koley Wyatt Havard, 23, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving With Blood Alcohol Content, transported to the Sedalia Police Department for processing, and then released with a court date.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of East 5th Street Wednesday evening for a report of assault. The victim stated a neighbor known to him came onto his property and began beating him. The victim sustained several injuries but refused treatment. The suspect fled the area at the time, but later turned himself in. Michael James Tackitt, 43 of Sedalia, was booked on charges of felony Assault in the 3rd Degree. Tackitt was booked and released pending charges.

Thursday morning, Sedalia Police, Sedalia Fire, and PCAD responded to the 1600 block of Liberty Park Boulevard for a medical call involving someone not breathing. Officers arrived on the scene and located the victim. The victim was moved to a position so his vitals could be accessed. The victim was not breathing and didn't have a pulse. Sedalia Fire and PCAD arrived and took over care of the victim. CPR and life saving measures were attempted on the victim without success. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Pettis County Coroner was contacted to respond to the scene. The victim's body was transported by the Pettis County Coroner to an unnamed funeral home.

Sedalia Police responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard Wednesday night for a domestic disturbance. Contact was made with two subjects inside a vehicle. It was determined a verbal altercation had occurred inside the vehicle. During the incident, the suspect took a cell phone belonging to a juvenile and damaged it. The phone was completely destroyed, and was not usable. The value of the phone was estimated at $1000. Charges of Property Damage in the 1st Degree are being sought against the suspect.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Osage Avenue Wednesday evening for a report of a physical domestic disturbance involving a juvenile. On arrival, the subjects involved were located. At a parent's request, a Juvenile was transported to the Bothwell Hospital to be evaluated. A report has been completed for documentation, and a Juvenile referral has been done.

Thursday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Twin Oaks Independent Living, 800 Winchester Drive, for a report of forgery. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Conchetta Y Murray, who was an employee. She stated that sometime between June 21 and June 22 of 2022, someone stole a check for $1,122.60 from the 2500 block of Dennis Road and cashed it. There are no suspects at this time.

Officers were made aware of a theft that occurred at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, Thursday afternoon. A suspect had fraudulently returned an item to the store and then left on foot. The suspect was located in the 900 block of Mitchell Road by a detective with the Crime Resolution Unit. They confessed to the crime. Sebastian Littlefield, 31, of Marthasville, was issued a municipal summons for Shoplifting with a court date.

Thursday morning, Officers responded to the Casey's store, 3050 South Limit Avenue, in reference to found property. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with Kristina L. Moore. Moore stated she found property wrapped in a t-shirt sitting against the back of the business. The property was collected and placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Thursday morning, Andrew Dawson brought a bag to the Police Department that was originally found near the intersection of West 10th Street and South Grand Avenue. There is nothing inside the bag to indicate who the owner is, so it was secured into evidence for safekeeping.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Police Station lobby for a report of illegal dumping Thursday morning. The complainant said that on Wednesday evening, someone dumped a load of drywall in the alleyway south of the 300 block of West Cooper Street. The investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Prospect Avenue for a report of a found set of car keys. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Donna L. Osbourn. Osbourn stated she found a set of car keys in her trash can and was afraid they belonged to a stolen vehicle. Officers took the keys and placed them into evidence storage until the owner could be located.

Officers were dispatched to a call involving a juvenile beyond parental control in the 1200 block of South Osage Avenue Thursday evening. At the conclusion of the investigation, an adult at the residence was found to have an active warrant out of Lee's Summit Police for Failure to Appear on original charges of Expired Plates. Harry W. Tobin IV, 37 of Sedalia, was arrested on the warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Tobin was booked and released of his own recognizance with a new court date.
