
Sedalia Police Reports for July 24th, 2024

Tuesday evening, Officers responded to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard to investigate a report of stalking. Officers conducted an investigation while on scene and gathered the necessary information to generate a report and submit formal charges.
Officers responded to the Hubbard Park, 601 North Missouri Avenue, in reference to a case of harassment Tuesday evening. The reporting party stated a subject had told him he was going to cause harm through deadly force. The suspect has been identified, and state charges are being requested.
Tuesday afternoon, Officers took a report of theft which had occurred in the overnight hours in the 500 block of West 5th Street. The reporting party stated someone broke into their truck and stole two sets of earbuds.
Early Wednesday morning, Officers observed three subjects walking on the Katy Trail in the area of West 16th Street and South Ohio Avenue. Officers checked all of the subject’s information details with Dispatch. Dispatch advised one of the subjects had a Failure to Appear warrant for their arrest on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. That warrant was issued after an incident in October of 2023. In that original incident, the Probable Cause statement details Officers had observed the suspect walking south on Lamine Avenue. Officers walked on foot until they saw the same subject standing in the yard of a residence in the 1300 block South Lamine Avenue. Officers approached him and called out the suspect’s name. He turned, and Officers informed him he had a warrant for his arrest. Dispatch was able to confirm the warrant, which was a failure to appear warrant on an original charge of DWI -drugs. Before searching the suspect incident to arrest, Officers asked if he had anything that could poke them in his pockets. The suspect seemed to hesitate and said he wasn't sure if he had something that would poke anyone, and then made the utterance "I am an addict". As Officers searched the suspect again, he advised the Officer to be careful. Officers asked where this item would be and the suspect said he had a point* on him and that it would have a cap on it. He also said there was nothing in it. Officers retrieved the capped syringe from his pants pocket and observed a small amount of a dark substance inside it. At the Police Department Officers tested the syringe. A NARTEC field kit showed a positive result for methamphetamine. The arraignment on this incident was held in May of 2024, with an FTA issued in July. Leslie Eugene Harrell, 46, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a $25,000 cash or surety bond.

Tuesday evening, Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 300 block of South Montgomery Avenue. After some investigation into the incident, Officers were able to determine the vehicle had not been stolen, but was involved in a civil issue. A report was completed to document the incident.
Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of West 9th Street and South Carr Avenue. The driver was arrested for Driving While Revoked, and transported to the Pettis County Jail. An inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed found several contraband items. Christopher D. McKinzie, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Concealable Weapon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and felony Driving While Revoked.
Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South Marvin Avenue in reference to a theft report Tuesday morning. Sierra Anderson stated their pistol was stolen out of their vehicle in the overnight hours. The pistol was entered into NCIC and MULES as stolen.
Tuesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a suicidal subject with a weapon. The subject was cooperative, and was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a mental health evaluation.
Monday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Country Club Boulevard in reference to a vehicle theft. Brandy Naylor stated the vehicle had been stolen in the overnight hours on July 22nd.
*The Officer, in the probable cause statement, clarified this as: “A 'point' is a common slang term for a syringe”.
