Sedalia Police Reports For July 25, 2022

Sunday evening, Officers responded to the Domino's restaurant, 3200 South Limit Avenue, in reference to a report of child abuse. The reporting party stated a co-worker was seen physically abusing her children while working earlier in the day. The Child Abuse Hotline has been contacted. Pettis County Deputies conducted a follow up at the children's residence.

Sedalia Police responded to the Jiffy Stop, 1722 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a subject check Sunday afternoon. The subject was identified as a missing person out of Independence, Missouri. Contact was made with the reporting party. The subject was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center. A report was made to remove the subject from the missing person roster.

Officers responded to the area of South Missouri Avenue and West 7th Street Sunday afternoon for a report of a person not breathing, possibly due to an overdose. On arrival, life saving measures were performed by Officers on scene. The subject began to breathe on his own, but was not responsive. His care was turned over to PCAD on their arrival. The subject was transported to the Bothwell Regional Medical Center.

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 1000 block of South Vermont Avenue in reference to a possible disturbance. Officers discovered that one of the subjects had an active warrant out of Pettis County. The warrant was a Failure to Appear on original charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and two counts of felony Driving While Revoked. Nathaniel L. Willis, 42, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail and issued a bond of $10,000 cash or surety. No other charges came from the incident.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of South Sneed Avenue Sunday morning. Family reported they could not get in contact with their 75 year old father that morning, so they went to check on him and found him deceased in the home. The coroner's office was called to the scene, and the subject was later transported to the Heckart Funeral Home. No foul play is suspected in the case.

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the area of West 3rd Street and South Quincy Avenue for a report of a found bicycle. On arrival, the bicycle was ran through Dispatch and came back not on file. An owner could not be determined. The bike was collected and transported to the Sedalia Police Department and placed into evidence as found property.

Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Sneed Avenue early Sunday morning. The driver of the vehicle was found to have two City of Sedalia warrants. The warrants were for Failure to Appear on original charges of two counts of Operating a Motor Vehicle On the Highway Without a Valid License. She was also driving on a suspended license. Jasmine Hernandez, 23, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Total bond on the warrants was set at $200 cash only. Hernandez was booked and released on a state charge of Driving While Suspended.

Saturday evening, Officers responded to the 100 block of East 24th Street for a report of a suicide attempt with the use of a firearm. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for emergency treatment. The victim was subsequently transported by air ambulance to University Hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

Sedalia Police responded to the Casey's store, 716 West 16th Street, for a report of an overdose Friday afternoon. The victim was transported to the Bothwell Hospital for treatment. No charges are being requested per Missouri's 911 Good Samaritan Law.

Saturday night, Officers responded to the area of West 7th Street and South Ohio Avenue for a report of a disturbance between a male and a female. The altercation was verbal. The subject's information was checked with Dispatch, and it was discovered the male had an active Pettis County warrant. The Failure to Appear warrant was on original charges of Resisting Arrest and Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without A Valid License (2nd Offense). Cody Jay Hicks, 32, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be held pending a $4,000 cash or surety bond.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of West 11th Street Saturday afternoon in reference to a possible disturbance. A father and son got into a physical altercation at the residence. Officers were unable to determine a primary physical aggressor. A report was completed for a 12 hour domestic violence log.

Saturday afternoon, Officers spoke with Chastity Kinner at the Police Headquarters in reference to found property. Kinner stated she located a watch while at Centennial Pool on Friday. The owner of the watch was located, and the watch was returned.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Engineer Avenue for a warrant check. On arrival, Officers made contact with Lori L. Hadley, 50, of Sedalia. A computer check with Dispatch confirmed Hadley to have an active warrant out of Pettis County for Trespassing. Hadley was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Bond for Hadley was set at $250 cash only.

Early Saturday morning, Officers conducted an investigative stop on a SUV at the Cenex, 120 East 16th Street. A check through Dispatch showed that a passenger in the vehicle had an active warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of Expired Plates and Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway While License Suspended. Nadelene B. Meseky, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested on the warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Bond for Meseky was set at $200 cash only.

Sedalia Police responded to the 4100 block of West Broadway Boulevard to make contact with an elderly missing subject Friday evening. The subject was reported missing out of Henry County earlier that day. The subject was contacted, and was transported to the hospital by PCAD for a mental health evaluation.

Friday morning, Officers conducted a subject check in the 1000 block of South Harrison Avenue. The subject fled on foot but was captured a short distance away. Arthur Gordon Phillips Jr., 29, of Sedalia, was arrested for his warrant for Assault in the 4th Degree (Pursuant to Subdivision), and two Probation Violation warrants, one on Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one on felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Phillips was not issued a bond.

Sedalia Police initiated contact with residents in the 1900 block of South Lamine Avenue Friday morning regarding an investigation. A check through Dispatch showed one of the subjects had an active Benton County warrant for felony Forgery and felony Fraudulent Use Of A Credit/Debit Device. Jackie L. Harper, 29, of Eldon, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked. Harper was issued a bond of $30,000 cash or surety.

Friday afternoon, Officers performed a warrant check in the 600 block of South Moniteau Avenue. Contact was made with the subject, and a check through Dispatch confirmed that subject had multiple warrants. One warrant was a Probation and Parole Violation from Cooper County on original charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony Resisting Arrest, one was a Failure to Appear warrant on felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one was a Failure to Appear warrant for Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway With a Suspended License. Cruz Escobar, 24, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and held with no bond.

Sedalia Police responded to the Wildflower Beauty Company, 703 South Ohio Avenue, in reference to a property damage complaint Friday morning. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with Brittney N. Coonce. Coonce stated sometime overnight, someone had thrown an object at her window, causing the glass to break.
