Sedalia Police Reports For June 1, 2021

Early Tuesday morning, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to a domestic assault. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the caller, who said she had been assaulted by her significant other. The caller had injuries to her face. The suspect denied striking the victim. Brandon Jackie Cooper, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24 hour hold. A request for the charges of Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree has been submitted to the prosecutor.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to a reported burglary in the 1500 block of East 16th Street. Concessions stands throughout Centennial Park were burglarized and damaged. The suspect/suspects are unknown at this time, and the investigation continues.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1300 block of South Park Avenue for a report of a disturbance Saturday night. Elizabeth Meller stated she and a group were at Katy Park in the 2200 block of South Grand an hour earlier when a suspect began shooting them with a paintball gun, striking one of the group in the face. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers took a report of a theft that occurred at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Saturday evening. Wal Mart employees stated that a subject entered the store and proceeded to exit the store with an unpaid item. There are no suspects at the time of the report.

Sunday night, Officers responded to the 100 block of South Stewart Avenue for a theft no longer in progress. When Officers arrived on the scene, the victim stated she saw her Xbox in her neighbor's window. Officers made contact with the juveniles, and confirmed they were in possession of her Xbox. A juvenile referral will be done for both juveniles involved.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on a car for failing to maintain its lane Sunday morning. A check through Dispatch showed the driver's license was revoked. David Eddie Taylor, 40, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Police Department. Taylor was released with a city ticket for Driving While Revoked.

Saturday night, Officers initiated a traffic stop on an SUV for a defective headlight. A check through Dispatch showed the driver's license status was suspended. Jamila T. Jordan, 26, of Sweet Springs, was issued a state ticket for Driving While Suspended and released from the scene.

Officers responded to the lobby of the Police Department Saturday evening for a possible leaving the scene of an accident report. Amalia Medina said her vehicle was parked near the 1500 block of East 5th Street and it struck by another vehicle between Thursday and Saturday. A crash report and case report were completed.

Sedalia Police observed a black car travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Broadway Boulevard around South Marvin Avenue Saturday evening. Radar indicated it was speeding 91 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. The driver slammed on their brakes after passing Officers and swerved across the yellow line into the oncoming lane. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on South Ingram Avenue. Jesse L. Rubio, 17, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Headquarters for processing. Rubio received citations for Driving While Intoxicated, Careless and Imprudent Driving, Speeding, and Improper Lane Usage with a court date.

Early Saturday morning, Sedalia Police initiated a traffic stop on an SUV in the area of Oak Grove Lane and West Broadway Boulevard for speeding and failing to maintain its lane. A DOR check of the driver revealed he was revoked out of Missouri. Jacobo Maldonado Aguare, 23, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest and transported to the Sedalia Police Department for processing. Aguare was issued a municipal court summons for Driving While Revoked and given a court date.

Sedalia Police initiated a traffic stop on a car for a defective tail light Saturday evening. A check through Dispatch showed the passenger had two active City of Sedalia warrants for Failure to Appear on original charges of Driving on a Highway While Revoked. Sami Jo Luttrell, 33, of Gardner Kansas, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on the warrants with a total bond of $300.

Early Sunday morning, Pettis County mutual aided a missing person report that was made in the 1300 block of East Boonville. Jessica Younce reported her son ran away. A report was made.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of West 6th Street for a report of theft Friday evening. Robert H. Arends reported a newer, red Craftsman tool box and a newer, blue Kobalt 20 gallon air compressor were missing from his property. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Early Friday morning, Officers were on patrol when they noticed a vehicle driving with no headlights on. A traffic stop was conducted in the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South Hancock Avenue. The stop revealed the passenger of the vehicle had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Johnson County on original charges of Operating a Motorcycle Without a License with a $500 cash only bond. Further investigation revealed drug paraphernalia and drugs within the vehicle. Jeffery Loren Friedley, 37, of Cole Camp, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail for processing on his Failure to Appear warrant and pending charges of Possession of Marijuana and False Impersonation.

Sedalia Police performed a vehicle stop on a red Mazda SUV for speeding on East Pettis near North Washington Street Thursday evening. The driver was identified and a computer check through Dispatch revealed his driving status was revoked in Missouri and suspended in Illinois. Michael L. Taylor, 50, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released on charges of Driving While Suspended.

Monday evening, Officers responded to the 100 block of South Park Avenue for a report of gun shots. When Officers arrived, they located a female in an alley way inside of a silver car. The female was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Charlotte E Vinson, 39, Homeless, was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 400 block of East Chestnut Friday afternoon to make contact with a suspect with a felony Failure to Appear warrant from Audrain County on original charges of Non Support. When Officers arrived, they made contact with the suspect and confirmed the warrant through Dispatch. Anthony B. Brewer, 45, of Sedalia, was taken into custody after his wife arrived to watch their three year old son. Brewer was then transported to the Pettis County Jail pending he post $500 a cash bond or was transported back to Audrain County.

Monday afternoon, Sedalia Police received two separate calls about a careless driver that was southbound on Limit Avenue entering the city limits. Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the parking lot of the Rush Hour store, 1320 South Limit. It was discovered the vehicle was reported stolen out of Columbia. As Officers attempted to make contact with the driver, he fled on foot. Officers caught him a few blocks away. Heath A. Thalgott, 23, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24 hour hold for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree and felony Resisting Arrest.

Officers reported to the 1600 block of Heck Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with several people who are related by marriage. They all stated that an argument had broken out between them and a shoving match ensued. No parties were injured and a primary aggressor could not be determined. A 12 hour log has been entered.

Monday morning, Officers took a report in the lobby of the Police Department in regards to property damage and trespassing. After taking the report Officers made contact with the suspect. After a short investigation, Jacob Edward Masters, 35, Homeless, was arrested for Property Damage in the 2nd Degree. Masters was taken to the Pettis County Jail, to be booked and held for 24 hours. Court date and bond are to be determined.

Sedalia Police Officers and medical personnel were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Brown Avenue in reference to an overdose Monday afternoon. A 12 year old at the residence took an unknown amount of insulin. The juvenile was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center by PCAD for treatment.

Monday morning, an Officer was dispatched to the 200 block of East Boonville Street in reference to a property damage report. Shirley Colvin reported that in the overnight hours Sunday someone damaged their vehicle.

Early Sunday morning, an SUV was stopped in the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South Marvin Avenue for several moving violations. After an investigation, it was determined that the driver's license was revoked, he was highly intoxicated, and driving with two young children in the vehicle. Jaime Guzman, 46, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Headquarters and then to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24 hour hold. Guzman was found to be in possession of cocaine and methamphetamine powder. State charges of two counts of Child Endangerment in the 1st Degree, Possession of Cocaine, Introduction of a Controlled Substance into a Jail Facility, Driving While Intoxicated, and Driving While Revoked are being requested against Guzman.

A car was stopped in the area of West 24th Street and South Grand for moving violations, failing to dim headlights, and expired/improper registration early Monday morning. After an investigation, it was determined the driver was impaired by drugs and in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Hector R. Martinez Diaz, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested, transported to a hospital, and then to the Pettis County Jail. Martinez Diaz was booked in on a state charge of Driving While Intoxicated by Drugs, pending release to a sober person. Charges of No Proof of Insurance, Improper/Expired Registration, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia are also being requested against Martinez Diaz.

Monday night, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a car for a defective headlight in the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South Ingram Avenue. A check through Dispatch showed the driver did not have a valid license. Fransisco Salvador, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Police Department. Salvador was fingerprinted and released with a City Summons for Operating a Vehicle without a Valid License.

Early Monday morning, an Officer initiated a traffic stop at the Rush Hour store, 1320 South Limit Avenue. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle. All of the occupants consented to a search of their person. One of the passengers was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Kimberly M. Draheim, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold for Possession of Methamphetamine.

Officers responded to the 300 block of West 3rd Street for a report of found property Sunday evening. The found property was seized and taken to the Police Department for holding.

Saturday afternoon, Sedalia Police responded to the Sutherland's store, 3808 South Limit, for a theft in progress. On arrival, the female was located inside the store with store merchandise in her purse. Linzee P. Rank, 26, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for stealing. Further investigation found she also had merchandise in her pants. Rank was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released on state charges of Stealing.

Sedalia Police responded to Missouri Health and Wellness, 1801 South Limit Avenue, for forgery report Saturday afternoon. On arrival, Officers spoke with the caller, who stated a counterfeit $20 bill was attempted to be used at the business. At the time of the report, no charges are being requested. The bill was seized and placed into evidence.

Sunday evening, Officers responded to Housel Park, 201 East Howard, for a report of property damage in progress. Upon arrival, two juveniles were located near the bathroom. Damage to the concession stand and bathrooms was observed. The juveniles were released to family members. A Juvenile Referral has been completed.

On Thursday, May 20th, a complainant came to the Sedalia Police Department to report an incident of theft which occurred at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, on May 15th. The suspect stole two items with an aggregate value of $248.88. No suspect information is currently available.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Station Saturday morning to speak with Steve R. Martin, who found some property. When Officers arrived, they made contact with Martin. Martin stated that earlier that morning, he found a Central Bank of Sedalia money bag in the street near his house with $10 in change inside. There was nothing in or on the bag to lead to finding the owner. The bag was then packaged and placed into evidence storage.

Saturday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Thompson Hills Shopping Center, 3103 West Broadway Boulevard in regard to a child left in a running vehicle. The parent of the child had come out and driven away before Officers arrived. Officers found the vehicle and made contact south of South Limit and West 16th Street. The subject stated that their child was sleeping, so they left them in the vehicle with the engine running. Officers discussed the dangers of this and explained a report would be generated. A hotline call was made in regard to this incident.

Friday afternoon, Sedalia Police responded to the lobby for a report of a sex crime report involving a juvenile. A report was completed, and information will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office.

Officers responded to the 400 block of North Grand Sunday morning in reference to a domestic disturbance. Contact was made with the suspect, and Officers had probable cause to arrest him for two stealing cases from the Break Time store, 318 West Broadway. Officers told the suspect to turn around and place his hands behind his back. The suspect was non compliant with Officers. After being placed into handcuffs, the suspect began to resist with Officers as they attempted to walk him to the patrol car. Heath D. Lestage, 19, of Sedalia, was placed into the WRAP unit and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on charges of Stealing/Shoplifting and Resisting Arrest. Lestage was placed on a 24 hour hold pending the filing of state charges.

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a reported assault in the 1600 block of South Carr Avenue. A juvenile was taken into custody and released.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to a reported property damage incident in the 1700 block of East 16th Street Friday afternoon. The incident was later determined to be a burglary. The suspect or suspects are unknown at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

On May 10th, a complainant came to the Police Headquarters to report an assault. The victim stated he was assaulted while working at the Lemaire's restaurant, 3500 West Broadway Boulevard on May 9th. After further investigation, the suspect was contacted on May 29th. Christopher S. Sheppard, 30, of Sedalia, was issued an UTT for Assault.

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Grand Avenue for a report of a one vehicle accident involving a traffic light and a fire hydrant. Once on scene, witnesses stated that they observed two white males leave the scene on foot after crashing a vehicle into two pedestrian crossing light signals and a fire hydrant. Photos of the damage were taken and attached to the report. A short time later that afternoon, one of the suspects was located. The driver was identified, but at the time of the report, had not yet been located for questioning. A charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident was submitted.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning, Officers responded to the 200 block of South Missouri Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance. Officer made contact with the victim, who stated that the father of her children punched her in the head. The victim suffered minor injuries. Miguel Matacua Aguilar, 24, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree and for a Sedalia Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Property Damage. Bond on the warrant is $60 cash only.

Friday evening, Officers performed a traffic stop in the 1700 block of South Ingram Avenue for a vehicle for no license plates. A search of the driver and vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia. Danielle M. Blake, 43, of Warsaw, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Blake was placed on a 24 hour hold pending the filing of charges of Possession of a Dangerous Drug, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Centennial Park, 1500 East 16th Street, Friday night for a report of a burglary not in progress. The complainant had found that a concession stand had been broken into and a second concession stand was attempted to be broken into. Damage to the property inside the concession stand was also located.

Friday night, Officers initiated a traffic stop on an SUV for an unreadable license plate in the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South New York Avenue. A check through Dispatch showed the driver's license status was suspended out of the state of Kansas. Sarah Jo Swift, 21, of Kansas City Kansas, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Swift was transported to the Police Department, fingerprinted and released with a city ticket.

On the afternoon of May 27th, Walmart Asset Protection filed a report regarding a theft that occurred in their store on May 25th. On May 28th, Matthew Morgan Thomas, 29, of Centerview, was located and arrested for Shoplifting. Thomas was booked and released from the Pettis County Jail with a court date to be determined.

Friday afternoon, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Station to speak with a subject about his license plate being stolen in the 1900 block of East 14th. Officers made contact with Cameron W. Jackson, who stated that between Thursday night and Friday morning, someone stole his rear license plate from his 2014 Dodge Charger. There are no suspects at this time. A copy of the report was sent to Dispatch to be entered.

Friday morning, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 600 block of West 2nd Street in reference to a theft. Esteban Reyes reported that an unknown suspect took three bags from near their home. There are no suspects at this time.
