Sedalia Police Reports For June 13, 2022

On the night of June 9th, Officers responded to the 2100 block of South Missouri Avenue in reference to an animal running at large. Officers made contact with the owner of the dog. Dorothy Brown, 66, of Sedalia, was issued a municipal citation for Animal At Large with a court date.

Sunday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a non working brake light in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Christopher Jonathan Wright, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender). Wright was transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Wright was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.

Monday morning, Officers responded to the Pettis County Sheriff's Office in reference to a subject check. Information was given to Officers that a female was banging on the door of the building. Officers made contact with the suspect, who admitted to driving her car, which had ran out of gas before stalling out in the intersection. Officers ran her information through Dispatch, which showed her driving status to be revoked. Amy I. Clark, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Revoked. Clark was booked and released pending state charges.

Sedalia Police responded to the Wal Mart store Sunday night for a report of a subject laying in the parking lot. When Officers arrived, they located the subject and identified her. From prior incidents with the subject, Officers were familiar with her. They knew she had been trespassed from the Wal Mart store. Judith Leigh Denney, 55, Homeless, was arrested for Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Denney was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was placed on a 24 hour hold.

Officers made contact with Kristin Rose Edwards Sunday night by phone. Edwards requested law enforcement retrieve her identification from her previous residence. Edwards implied that doing so would avoid a conflict between parties. The identification was obtained, but the owner refused to claim it from the station. The property was placed into evidence for safe keeping.

Officers conducted a traffic stop Sunday morning on a truck that was failing to maintain its lane. It also failed to signal a lane change. The truck was stopped in the area of South Osage Avenue and West 7th Street. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Andrew Eufinger, 26, of Cole Camp, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender). Eufinger was transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Eufinger was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.

Sunday night, a subject fled from a vehicle stop near West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard. The subject was located in the area of Royal Boulevard and Ruth Ann Drive, walking in the street. Hakeem S. Dickson, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested without incident for a charge of Pedestrian Walking Along the Roadway. Dickson had been previously been warned about walking in the street. Dickson was transported to the Pettis County Jail.

The Sedalia Fire Department and Sedalia Police responded to the Liberty Park Pool, 1600 West 3rd Street Sunday afternoon in reference to what was initially reported as a possible drowning. It was later determined to not be a case of drowning. A juvenile fell at the pool, and fell into the water. The juvenile was transported to the BHRC for treatment. A report was made for documentation.

Saturday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to speak with Linsay Dawson, who wanted to report a lost phone at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard. Officers contacted Dawson by phone, and she stated that she forgot her cell phone on the check out counter earlier that afternoon. Dawson left the store and realized she had left it, but when she came back the phone was gone. The phone was described as a white Galaxy Note 20 with a pink case. The phone was valued at $1400. There are no suspects at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Wood's Supermarket, 1400 South Limit Avenue Sunday night in reference to a male that was trespassing. The male had been contacted earlier in the evening and was issued a trespass warning for the property. The male returned to the business. Sam Lee Branstetter, 77, Homeless, was placed under arrest for Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Branstetter was transported to the BRHC for a fit for confinement check. Branstetter was then cleared for confinement, and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold.

Sunday night, Officers responded to the Break Time store, 808 East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. Officers made contact with an employee, Jennifer Archambault. Archambault reported a female who had previously stolen from the store had returned. After review of the video footage, it was determined the suspect had concealed items in her purse while inside the store, and then left without paying. The suspect was identified and charges will be submitted to the Prosecutor.

Officers located a cell phone in the lobby of the Police Station Sunday night. It was wrapped in a paper, advising it had been found on the Katy Trail near Griessen Road. Officers later spoke to the owner, who does not reside locally. The owner of the phone advised he would be in next week to pick up his phone. The phone was placed into evidence as found property.

Sunday afternoon, Officers took a report in the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a possible trespassing. The caller discovered evidence that led them to believe someone had attempted to break into the Crossroads Church, 2119 East 9th Street. Nothing was discovered to be taken or damaged at this time. A report was made for documentation.

Officers responded to the 400 block of North Washington Avenue Sunday morning in reference to a stolen bicycle. Jessica Claybrook reported a bicycle, valued at approximately $110, was stolen out of the yard of the residence. The bicycle has not been located at this time, and no suspects have been identified.

Saturday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1100 block of East 10th Street in reference to possible property damage. A window was broken out of a vehicle overnight belonging to Mark's Mobile Glass. The value of the damage was estimated at approximately $500. A report was made to document the incident.

Saturday afternoon, Officers responded to the 900 block of South Kentucky Avenue in reference to a possible property damage report. Gabrielle Cook reported a window was broken out of the residence within the last week. The value of the damage was estimated at approximately $200. No suspects have been identified at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Pettis County Community Partnership, 1400 South Limit Avenue #29, in reference to a female subject sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the building Sunday morning. The female was identified and found to be highly intoxicated. For her safety, she was transported to the BRHC for a fit for confinement check before being transported to the Pettis County Jail. Tina M. Swatek, 59, Homeless, was issued a municipal summons for Possession of a Open Container and placed on a 12 hour protective custody hold.

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to a report of a cardiac arrest in the 700 block of West 4th Street. Officers and medics arrived, and found an elderly female deceased. The Pettis County Coroner was contacted. The female was transported to the Rea Funeral Home. Foul play is not suspected.

Sedalia Police contacted a subject walking in the middle of the street at East 17th Street and South Washington Avenue Sunday morning. A record check revealed the subject had an active arrest warrant out of Pettis County for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving While Intoxicated, and No Seat Belt. Mitchell William Duncan, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested on his warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail with a $10,000 cash or surety bond.

Sunday morning, Officers were dispatched to the area of East 3rd Street and South Marvin Avenue to assist on a traffic stop. When Officers arrived, they made contact with the driver. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Joseph Zaremba, 51 of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Persistent Offender). Zaremba was transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Zaremba was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.

On the evening of June 10th, Officers responded to the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Limit Avenue for a report of a hit and run accident. The victim reported a vehicle struck her vehicle from behind while she was stopped at the intersection. The suspect vehicle fled the scene following the collision. A suspect was identified and later located. Cheyanne M. Wiser, 21, of Sedalia, was arrested on a municipal charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident. No injury was reported, and the victim vehicle sustained minor damage.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1000 block of East 9th Street in reference to a civil standby. While at the residence, Officers discovered one of the subjects had an active warrant out of Pettis County. Christopher W. Hughes, 36, was arrested on his warrant for two counts of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, one misdemeanor count of Unlawful Possession of an Illegal Weapon, and one felony count of Unlawful Possession of an Illegal Weapon. Hughes was transported to the Pettis County Jail with bond set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Sedalia Police responded to the Katy Trail, 2600 Clarendon Road, for a report of a bike found by Gerald Christian Friday afternoon. The bike was located and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where it was secured in evidence as found property.

Friday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of South Ohio Avenue and West 6th Street. During the roadside investigation, it was found the license plate on the vehicle was being improperly displayed. One license plate was seized from the suspect vehicle, and will be returned to the DOR.

Officers responded to the Menards store, 4400 Wisconsin Avenue Friday evening for a report of theft. When Officers arrived, contact was made with management. Management stated that on the evening of June 9th, an unknown female subject entered the store. After walking the store for some time, it was discovered the subject had stolen $248 in merchandise. It is unknown who the female is at the time of the report.

On the evening of June 6th, Officers were dispatched to an accident that occurred on West Broadway Boulevard and South Limit Avenue. Officers were told a vehicle was stopped, waiting to turn south on South Limit Avenue. The vehicle was then struck in the rear bumper. Both drivers were identified, and a crash report was generated. No injuries were reported, and no vehicles were towed from the scene.

In the early morning hours of June 5th, Officers responded to the Phillips 66, 216 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a hit and run accident. Kennetha Haulcy stated that while parked in the lot, another vehicle struck her vehicle and left the scene. The suspect's vehicle has not been identified at this time.
