Tuesday night, Officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on US 65 Highway near the southern city limits. Officers attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop, and Officers chose not to pursue. The suspect vehicle description was relayed to the Pettis County Sheriff's Deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The vehicle was located in the area a few minutes later by the MSHP. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver (who was not named in the report) was arrested by the Patrol and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending multiple state charges.


 

Sedalia Police were dispatched to an accident in the area of East 7th Street and South Brown Avenue Monday night. During the course of the investigation, it was determined one of the drivers was intoxicated. Sydney Ann Marie Schlup, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the SPD. Schlup provided a breath sample that showed her BAC to be above 0.02. A request for the charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Zero Tolerance*) has been sent to the prosecutor.


 

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was failing to maintain its lane Friday morning in the area of the 1700 block of Clarendon Road. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver had a suspended driver's license and was also intoxicated. Rickey Garvel Christian, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department. Christian provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Christian was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender), and Driving While Suspended.


 

Tuesday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of South Lamine Avenue for a report of a disturbance with a weapon. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with Steven R. Bartlett, who stated that he was inside a shed packing his belongings when an unknown suspect began beating the door with an axe. Bartlett said that the suspect began yelling at him to pack up his belongings and leave. Bartlett stated that as the suspect left, they shattered his car window with an axe. The suspect was later identified and charges are being sought.


 

Officers were dispatched to the Budget Salon, 2017 West Main Street, Tuesday afternoon for a report of a burglary. An unknown suspect broke one of the business' windows and went inside. They stole roughly $5 in change. The suspect has not been identified at this time.


 

Tuesday morning, Officers met with Stephanie Watts in the 400 block of West Main Street for a vehicle theft report. Watts stated that they had parked their car at the U-Haul Homestead Storage parking lot on March 11th. When Watts returned on the 22nd, the vehicle was missing. There are no suspects and the vehicle has been entered into MULES/NCIC as stolen.


 

Monday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of South Limit Avenue after a caller stated they saw a man walking in the road. Upon arrival, Officers saw that the suspect attempted to hide a bottle of alcohol. Officers issued Mario A. Madrid, 39, Homeless, a municipal court summons for Open Container. Officers then gave Madrid a ride to a different area.


 

Sedalia Police responded to the 1600 block of South Sneed Avenue in reference to harassment Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim, who stated a male subject loosely known to him showed up at his residence, harassing him. The suspect left before Officer's arrival. He was later identified. The suspect was contacted a short time later, and it was learned there is an ongoing issue between the two subjects. A general information report was created to document the incident.


 

Tuesday evening, Officers met with the victim in the lobby of the Police Department in reference to an assault. The victim stated that he was assaulted by someone known to him, but declined to pursue the matter criminally. A report was created to document the incident.


 

Early Wednesday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with defective license plate lights near the intersection of East 17th Street and South Washington Avenue. The driver was found to have a Johnson County Failure to Appear warrant on moving violations with bond at $350 cash only. Hector Ricardo Martinez Diaz, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on the warrant.


 

*It is illegal in Missouri for anyone under the age of 21 to purchase, attempt to purchase, possess, or consume alcoholic beverages. Therefore, Missouri has a “zero tolerance” for underage drinkers. Anyone under the age of 21 driving with a BAC of .02 percent or higher will have his/her drivers license suspended for 30 days.
