Tuesday afternoon, Officers conducted a warrant check in the 1800 block of South Barrett Avenue. A male subject was located, who had a Pettis County warrant for his arrest. The warrant was on September 26th, 2024, after an incident on September 16th. In that incident, Pettis County Deputies were on patrol in the area of East 13th Street and South Ingram Avenue when a white Toyota Tacoma passed them, with no registration on the front. After not being able to see the rear plates on the truck, Deputies activated their emergency lights to conduct a stop at the intersection of East 10th Street and Thompson Avenue. Deputies and Officers made contact with the driver, who stated he did not have his driver’s license or insurance card. After checking his information with Dispatch, it was confirmed he was a valid driver, but had a warrant out of probation and parole. As the suspect was placed into custody, he denied consent to search his vehicle. A K9 search was conducted, with a positive alert. Nothing illegal was located inside the vehicle. However, the suspect asked at one point if the Officers could loosen his handcuffs. As Deputies complied, they noticed as he was speaking that he had something concealed in his mouth. After asking the suspect to open his mouth several times, a small clear plastic baggie was discovered. Inside the baggie was a white crystal substance. Inside the bag, the substance tested positively for fentanyl. The digital scale showed a weight of 1.0 grams of Fentanyl*. The baggie also tested positively for Methamphetamine. In the present time, the suspect, Timothy J. Coterel, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested for his warrant on original charges of felony Trafficking Drugs in the 2nd Degree, and felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Coterel was issued a cash or surety bond of $100,000.


 

On the morning of September 30th, Officers conducted a warrant check in the area of East 7th Street and South Washington Avenue. Adrien J. Crutchfield, 45, of Sedalia, was arrested for a warrant from Probation and Parole on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Crutchfield was transported to the Pettis County Jail with no bond.


 

Tuesday morning, officers took a report of fraud from the lobby of the Police Department. Gary L. Billingsley stated someone had charged $1,835.82 to his bank account without his permission.


 

On the night of September 27th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle because it had expired registration. The stop took place near West 4th Street and South Missouri Avenue. The odor of burnt marijuana was coming from the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Tylor Daniel Joseph Sayers, 28, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs).

Tuesday evening, Officers responded to a storage unit at 900 Normandy Road in reference to a burglary from the facility. Vincent H.A. Hedglin reported that sometime over the last year, several items had been taken from the storage unit.


 

Tuesday night, Officers assisted an out of State Agency with a death notification that was related to an aviation related crash.


 

On the morning of September 26th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near South Limit Avenue and West 32nd Street because it had committed a lane violation. A computer check showed the driver to have a revoked driving status. Aurelio Rubio Nicolas, 40, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Nicolas was transported to the Sedalia Police Department to be fingerprinted and issued a UTT.


 

Tuesday night, Officers responded to the area of West 32nd Street and South Limit Avenue in reference to a hit and run accident. The victim, William James Whitworth, stated he was sideswiped while at the stoplight. The other vehicle fled the scene without stopping or providing any information. The investigation is ongoing.


 

On the morning of September 27th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle because it was not displaying a registration plate. The stop took place near East 9th Street and South Montgomery Avenue. The odor of burnt marijuana was coming from the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Destinee Lachey Sparks, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs).


 

Tuesday night, Officers were dispatched to the area of East Harvey Street and North Harding Avenue in reference to a single vehicle crash. When Officers arrived, it was discovered the crash occurred following an assault. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold. Samuel Negrette, 26, of Kansas City, was arrested on charges of felony Assault in the 3rd Degree, Trespassing in the 1st Degree, and Armed Criminal Action.


 

*The probable cause report notes the statutory amount for trafficking Fentanyl is 20 Milligrams. One gram is equivalent to 1000 Milligrams.
