Sedalia Police Reports For September 6, 2022

Monday night, Officers responded to the Bothwell Hospital for an animal call. Judith Morris reported a dog bite in the 400 block of South Grand Avenue.

Sedalia Police responded to the intersection of East 12th Street and South Monroe Avenue for a report of gunshots. Upon arrival, Officers were unable to locate any victims, a suspect, or other evidence to assist in the investigation. The report was filed for documentation.

Officers responded to the 900 block of West 5th Street Monday night to assist the Pettis County Children's Division with an investigation.

Monday afternoon, Officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of West 16th Street and South Warren Avenue after observing it driving over the speed limit. A computer check revealed the driver's Missouri driving privileges had been suspended. Luis Daniel Santiago Garcia, 48, of Sedalia, was released from the scene with a summons for Driving While Suspended.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the American Inn, 1217 South Limit Avenue Monday afternoon for a report of theft. Edwin P. Goss stated a friend visited his motel room, and his cell phone went missing afterward. The phone was entered into MULES and NCIC as stolen.

Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of South Grand Avenue for a report of a disturbance with weapons. Investigation revealed the theft of an ID card and an EBT Card. No arrests were made.

Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West 7th Street Monday afternoon in reference to an update to a previously reported missing juvenile case. The juvenile was now home and was fine. An assist agency report was completed so that the juvenile's information could be removed from the missing persons list.

Sedalia Police responded to the 2200 block of South Missouri Avenue Monday morning for a report of found property. Jenny Hayslip reported that a juvenile male had left a bicycle in her front yard the previous day. The bicycle was taken to the Sedalia Police Department for safekeeping.

Sunday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that only had one working tail light. The stop took place in the area of Clinton Road and West 24th Street. Officers identified all occupants of the vehicle and ran their information through Dispatch. The driver's Missouri license was suspended. Blake Austin Hollon, 23, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for Driving While Suspended. Hollon was booked and released at the Pettis County Jail.

On the afternoon of September 2nd, Officers were dispatched to the area of East 16th Street and South Washington Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving injuries. Upon arrival, both parties were checked on, and one of the parties was transported to the hospital for treatment. Upon further investigation, it was revealed one of the drivers did not have a driver's license. Edgar C. Cucul, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department. There, Cucul was booked on charges of Operator's License Required, Disobeying a Stop Sign, and Failure to Secure a Child Under the Age of Eight.

Friday night, Officers took a report of a stolen firearm from Jon Burdick. Information was collected and the firearm was entered as stolen into NCIC and MULES. There is no suspect information at the time of the report.

Early Sunday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a SUV with excessively dark window tint near West 3rd Street and South Lamine Avenue. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated and had a revoked driving status. In addition, the subject had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Saline County on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Owned By Another Knowing Owner Of Vehicle Has Not Maintained Financial Responsibility. Trevon M. Gravitt, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department. At the PD, Gravitt provided a breath sample that showed his BAC was above 0.08. Gravitt was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, pending a cash or surety bond of $250.00.

Sunday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Woods store, 701 East Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a hit and run accident that occurred in the parking lot. Officers were given the license and description of the suspect vehicle. Officers later made contact with the suspect driver through investigation, but the suspect was not named in the report. Formal charges are being requested on the suspect driver for Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident.

Officers were doing a general patrol in the area of Brianna Boulevard and Thompson Boulevard Friday afternoon when they observed a vehicle conduct a moving violation. A traffic stop was completed, and the driver was identified. A check through Dispatch showed the driver had an active warrant from Pettis County on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Jorge L. Fletes-Estrella, 56, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a $7,500 cash or surety bond.

Friday morning, Officers responded to the 2300 block of West 3rd Street to investigate a reported burglary. Upon arrival, Officers met with Alexa M. Kettle. Kettle stated that sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning, someone entered her residence and removed items that were valued at a total of $430. At this time, the suspect is unknown.

Sunday afternoon, Officers responded to the intersection of East Pettis Street and North Mill Avenue in reference to a subject check. Officers made contact with an individual, who Dispatch confirmed to be a missing person. The subject refused any assistance, and was released from the scene.

Sedalia Police responded to the 400 block of North Mill in reference to a theft Sunday afternoon. Officers spoke with Darryl Frazier, who stated his cell phone was stolen from work in the 3300 block of West 10th Street earlier in the day. The phone has not been recovered at this time.

Saturday morning, Officers spoke with Shawn Dillingham in the Police Department lobby regarding unusual transactions on his bank account. Dillingham stated three different deposits were made into his account that were not his. The account also showed pending transactions that he did not make. The reporting party is not out any money at this time.

Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Stewart Avenue Saturday evening for a missing persons report. Crystal Marie Fizer reported to Officers that her daughter ran away from home and will not return. The daughter was dropped off at school on August 30th for the first day of school and has not been seen since. The daughter's information will be entered onto the missing persons/runaway list.

Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had a tail light out. The stop happened in the area of East 9th Street and South Hancock Avenue. After stopping the vehicle, Officers identified and ran the occupant's information through Dispatch. One of the occupants provided false information. After being fingerprinted roadside, his real information revealed he had four warrants from Pettis County. A substance that tested positive for methamphetamine was found on his person. Jamarious M. Neil, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested for Possession of a Dangerous Drug, Possession/Delivery of a Controlled Substance in a County Jail, Identity Theft, the four warrants. One warrant was a Failure to Appear on original charges of Possession of Marijuana. The other warrants carried charges of felony Burglary in the 1st Degree, Property Damage in the 2nd Degree, felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree, and misdemeanor Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree. Neil was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold with bond to be determined.

Sedalia Police located a subject in a vehicle at Liberty Park. The subject was sleeping in the vehicle early Sunday morning. The subject had been warned on multiple other occasions about being in the park past closing hours. Kara Keri Schondelmeyer, 41, of Sedalia, was issued a citation for Parks Prohibited After Hours.

Early Sunday morning, Officers observed a cargo van driving in the 3000 block of South Limit Avenue with only one headlight. Officers conducted a traffic stop and recognized the driver of the van to be impaired. After investigation, Justin C. Meyer, 46 of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated by Drugs. Meyer was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was released to a sober person.

Sunday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of East 17th for a report of a suicidal subject. Officers arrived and determined that a subject at the residence had ingested pills with the intention to cause harm to themselves. PCAD was requested, and they responded to the scene. The subject was transported to Bothwell by PCAD for a voluntary mental health evaluation. A report was completed for documentation, and a referral will be sent to Community Behavior Health Liaisons for follow up care.

Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop Friday afternoon at the intersection of South Marvin Avenue and East 3rd Street. The driver was found to have an active Sedalia Failure to Appear warrant and a revoked driver's license. John W. Bryant, 49, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Revoked and the Sedalia FTA warrant on original charges of Nuisance Violations. Bond on the warrant was set at $60 cash only. Bryant was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked.

Friday afternoon, Officers conducted a subject check outside the Pettis County Court House, 415 South Ohio Avenue. Michael Kevin Wright, 60, of Sedalia, was found to have an active felony Forgery warrant for his arrest from Pettis County. Wright was arrested on the warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked with a $250 cash only bond.

On the afternoon of August 29th, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a truck for expired registration in the area of South Wagner Avenue and East 7th Street. The odor of marijuana was smelled coming from the vehicle, and it was subsequently searched. Drug paraphernalia was located and seized for destruction, but no charges were sought.

Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of West 19th Street and South Ohio Avenue for a license violation on the night of August 31st. The driver of the vehicle was found to have an active Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle. Michael S. Grisham, 53, of Warsaw, was arrested pending a $200 cash only bond.

On the afternoon of August 29th, Officers observed a subject operating a vehicle that they knew had active warrants. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the truck near South Brown Avenue and East 15th Street. Contact was made with the driver, and it was confirmed he had five active Pettis County warrants and a City of Sedalia warrant. The City warrant was a Failure to Appear on original charges of Property Damage. One warrant was a felony Failure to Appear on charges of Property Damage in the 1st Degree. The other warrants were on original charges of felony Assault in the 3rd Degree, Driving While Revoked, and two other instances of Property Damage in the 2nd Degree. Zachary L. Denny, 28, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked with no bond.

On the afternoon of August 30th, Officers were dispatched to the Police Station lobby in reference to a Violation of a Full Protection Order. Officers spoke with Candace R. Ditton, who said the suspect called her while she was at work. He is not supposed to be contacting her due to her having a full order of protection against him. It was confirmed that a protection order is in place, and charges will be requested from the state prosecutor.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Park Avenue in reference to a hit and run accident. A parked Chevrolet HHR was hit in the left front end by a red Ford Fiesta. Video was provided to Officers, as well as license plate information. The case is under investigation.
