Sedalia Police Reports For September 9, 2022

Tuesday afternoon, the Sedalia Police Department took a report of someone violating an order of protection in the 1200 block of South Stewart. After investigation, charges are being requested against the suspect.

Sedalia Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the area of South Missouri Avenue and West 3rd Street for expired registration Thursday night. The Officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle and subsequently searched it. A handgun was found inside the vehicle. Neither the driver or the passenger claimed ownership of the gun. They both claimed they had found it. The handgun was seized for safekeeping, to be returned to the proper owner.

Late Thursday night, Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Missouri Avenue for a report of assault. The victim had injuries to their face from a known suspect who had fled the scene. The suspect was located nearby, and fled from Officers. The Pettis County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted setting a perimeter. Deputies and the K9 Unit were deployed to track the suspect. After a several hundred feet long track, the suspect was found hiding in a garage and arrested without further incident. Arthur Gordon Phillips Jr., 29, of Sedalia, was arrested for felony Resisting Arrest and felony Assault in the 2nd Degree. Bond was to be determined at the time of the report.

Thursday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Probation and Parole Office, 205 Thompson Road, for a warrant check. Upon arrival, Officers located the suspect and checked the Probation Violation warrant with Dispatch. Samantha Jo Carter, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested for Probation Violation on original charges of felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child. There was no bond on the warrant. Carter was transported to the Pettis County Jail without incident.

Sedalia Police met with Orrey Atkisson in the lobby of the Police Department Wednesday afternoon. Atkisson stated that he was being harassed by someone via Snapchat. The suspect was threatening to share personal images of the victim with the victim's friends via the Internet.

Wednesday morning, Officers spoke with Ed Colvin in the Police Station lobby. Colvin stated that he was recently hospitalized for a few days, and after returning to his home in the 1100 block of East 15th Street, someone had stolen prescription pills from the residence. The incident would have occurred between August 31st and September 5th, 2022. There are no suspects at this time.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Missouri Avenue Thursday morning in reference to a family member found unresponsive. The victim was believed to be deceased in a bathroom. Officers arrived and started CPR. Medical responders took over life saving measures upon their arrival. The adult male was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel on scene. The Pettis County Coroner's Office arrived and later transported the deceased.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to O'Reilly's Auto Parts, 2414 West Broadway Boulevard Wednesday afternoon for a report of a stolen vehicle. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Andrew G. Cleavenger. Cleavenger stated that sometime in the last two hours, someone stole his black 2003 Dodge Durango that was parked in the lot. The vehicle was valued at $1200. A copy of the report was sent to Dispatch to be entered into the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System and The National Crime Information Center. There are no suspects at this time.
