A Sedalia woman has died after being shot by a Pettis County deputy late Saturday night following a traffic stop.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that at approximately 10 p.m., on June 13, a deputy with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near U.S. Highway 50 and Winchester Drive in Sedalia for speeding and C & I driving on Thompson Blvd. The driver allegedly ran a stop light at Broadway and Thompson.

The incident happened on the Asian Buffet property, 3406 West Broadway, next to Lemaire's.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver (suspect) was not compliant. The suspect allegedly threatened the deputy by stating she was armed and going to shoot him.

The incident then escalated and the deputy discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. Officers at the scene rendered first aid. The Pettis County Coroner arrived at the scene and pronounced the female, identified as 25-year-old Hannah Renee Fizer, deceased. There were no other injuries during the incident.

The Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control investigators were requested to respond to the scene. This is an ongoing investigation, according to MSHP Public Information Officer Andy Bell.

Fizer was reportedly on her way to work at Eagle Stop convenience store when the incident occurred.

Sedalia Police assisted at the scene.
