Abbey Ahern hit a grand slam to lead the Smtih-Cotton Lady Tigers softball team to a 6-4 home-opening win over Warrensburg on Thursday at Vansell Field in Liberty Park.

Darby Christian added a two-run single for S-C and Raine Hester threw a complete game in the West Central Conference showdown.

S-C is now 3-6 on the season and 2-0 in the WCC. Warrensburg won the JV game, 9-2.


The Smith-Cotton volleyball team picked up a West Central Conference win on the road Thursday night, winning at Clinton.

Jorey Luebbert had nine kills, Megan Toops had 12 assists and Taylor Burlingame added four aces and 13 digs.


Smith-Cotton dropped a 5-4 girls tennis decision Thursday night at St. Michael's in Kansas City.

Lady Tigers No. 1 singles player Elizabeth Matz defeated Libby Welman, 8-0, and teamed with Valenyna Usyk to beat Welman and Erica Kingdon, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles.

Also notching wins for the Lady Tigers were Anna Slipych at No. 5 singles and Slipych and Maria Aonzo at No. 3 doubles.

The Lady Tigers are now 2-3 (1-1 WCC).
