In addition to recognizing three City employees for their faithful service – Battalion Chief Matt Irwin, 20 years with the Sedalia Fire Department; Sgt. Joshua Howell, 10 years with the Sedalia Police Department; and Telecommunications Officer Kathryn Baughman, 10 years with the Sedalia Police Department – the Council amended an ordinance to bring the City's fee schedule (relating to the penalty for commencement of construction without a permit) in line with the City's code book. The penalty is 200 percent of the permit fee.

Also, the City purchased property at 412 North Missouri. The boarded-up, abandoned property was bought by the City of Sedalia at public auction for $504.43.

The taxes on the property are delinquent for 2012 through 2014, it was noted.

The Council also amended existing classsifications and job descriptions for Chief Buildling official, Housing Specialist and Code Enforecement Officer and deleting an existing classification and job description for Finance/Court Assistant.

The Council deleted a section of the Personnel Regulations Manual and added a new section pertaining to voluntary sick leave.

Two new liquor licenses were issued: Jeremy Klein dba Cork-N-Bottle, 3806 E. Broadway (packaged liquor and Sunday sales, $450) and Clint Robinson dba C & K's Envy, 115 W. Main (liquor by the drink, $450).

And one liquor license renewal was issued to Christopher Peters dba Smokers' Outlet, 1700 E. Broadway (packaged liquor and Sunday sales, $450).

Before the 12-minute meeting was officially over, Mayor Stephen J. Galliher gave a shout-out to the Sedalia Police Department and the Sedalia Fire Department, which he called “second to none. I'm very proud of them,” the Mayor said, also giving a special thanks to the wives of the City's police and fire personnel.

City Councilman and retired assistant chief Don Meier had glowing remarks for Battalion Chief Irwin. “Matt has the same drive he did 20 years ago, he's a real asset to the Sedalia Fire Department.”

Irwin later shared his thoughts on the award with a Facebook post:

"I could not have been as successful as I have been with out the support of them, the great people I work with the great citizens I work for and the huge support of my family who have pushed and encouraged me throughout my career! Thank you to everyone you have no idea how much you all mean to me!" he posted.

Baughman did not attend Monday night's meeting.
