The Forecast: Weekend Storms for West Central Missouri?
There's been a fair amount of chatter that West Central Missouri could experience another round of high winds and storms like we've had two or three times this month. Can we expect that again, or does Mother Nature have something else for us this weekend?
Storm Potential Saturday and Sunday, March 28 & 29
The National Weather Service in Kansas City says West Central Missouri is at a slight risk for strong to severe storms on Saturday and Sunday. Today's biggest threat is southwest winds up to 40 miles per hour, which are expected to diminish after 4:00 PM CDT.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible late Saturday and into Sunday as the area experiences a cold front moving eastward overnight. The strongest threats from these storms are large hail and damaging winds. Sunday morning will see some of the storms ongoing from Saturday night, and there is a potential for new thunderstorm activity on Sunday with similar risks.
While not really storm-related, the cold front moving through will make it feel chilly in West Central Missouri, with below-normal temperatures for Sunday.
Weekend Forecast
While there is a storm risk this weekend, the forecast is what you might expect for the end of March.
According to Weatherology, Saturday will be partly cloudy with a slight chance for scattered thunderstorms and a high of 77. Scattered thunderstorms are likely Saturday night, with a low of 57. Sunday, expect it to be cloudy, with scattered thunderstorms, and a high around 65. Sunday evening will be cold, with a low of 36, and Monday will see a mix of clouds and sun and a high of 54.
How To Plan Your Weekend
Saturday is the better day if you plan on engaging in outdoor activities, with the potential for scattered storms increasing Saturday night and Sunday. While the National Weather Service expects Sunday to be chilly, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s after the cold front passes, our forecaster, Weatherology, predicts that it will be a little warmer.
I'd recommend keeping an umbrella and a jacket or sweatshirt with you for any outdoor activities on Saturday night and Sunday!
