It's that time of year again. Time to think about getting that flu shot which will hopefully keep us from getting sick this winter. There seem to be two camps people fall in when it comes to flu shots. The people who swear they work, and those who invariably believe the flu shot causes them to get sick so they never get one.

Can we actually get the flu from getting a flu shot? Not according to the Centers for Disease Control. There are a few side effects we can get from a flu shot like tenderness at the site the injection was given. A low grade fever. And some aches. Those that get the vaccine in a nasal spray might experience a runny nose, wheezing, headache, vomiting, muscle aches and a fever. I don't know about you, but I'll stick with the shot.

The point is, anyone that gets sick after getting a flu shot, probably was going to get sick regardless of whether or not they got the flu shot.

KMBC says the CDC is saying "that this year's flu season could be severe." Dr. Todd Fristo, of Saint Luke's Health System told the television station what he tells a lot of his patients that question the effectiveness of the flu shot.

There's a lot of data out there that even if you would unfortunately contract influenza and you had the flu shot, the illness isn't quite as severe. So you do get over it a little quicker, less time off work and less chance of exposing other people.

Am I changing your mind? Probably not. I started getting the flu shot about ten years ago. I was out of work and my wife took me over to Walgreen's to get the shot because she was like... "we don't need doctor's bills right now." So I had it done and I've been getting it ever since. It works for me and it's something that might work for you. You can learn more about flu shots here.
